The comment was a way of pointing out that your opening argument displays serious ignorance of party politics during the second half of the last century when the parties altered course, most completely of the two - the Southern Right moving from "solid" Democrat to "solid" Republican, race politics being the cause of this, and the Right elsewhere also trending Republican if not there already.

Correct. The South was DEMOCRATIC because they hated Republicans for freeing the slaves. Then Democrats (over the objection of the racist scumbags from the South) passed the Civil Rights Act, and the South immediately dropped them, voting for George Wallace, an openly racist candidate, in 1968. Lee Atwater saw an opening, and the Southern Strategy was born. Don't say 'black people' say 'welfare queens'. Don't say 'Latinos' say 'illegal immigrants' And the Republican party became the party of racist dog whistlers. Trump just took it the next step and was openly racist.

NO, I am saying that the historically and current racist states that used to vote Democrat have mostly switched to the Republican party since the passage of the Civil Rights act of 1964. The racists were pissed and left the Democrats.
Lee Atwater, before he died, made a video about it being his strategy and how it worked to capture the South for the Republicans. Its on youtube.
Atwater explained that they decided to stop saying, "Nigger, Nigger, Nigger" and replaced it with code that Southerners understood to mean the same thing blaming... "Integration, bussing, and interracial marriage" for the ills of society, and the racists jumped on it.

Yes, like those guys... both of whom changed to be champions of African Americans later in their careers. Wallace left the Democratic party over the Civil Rights Act, then embraced it when he returned. He was elected in his final term by a huge black majority.
