Our system is not and cannot be perfect. We demand perfection, so we are always disappointed.
The very nature of the law is that it cannot be perfect.
If it was more aggressive in conviction then more innocent people would end up being sentenced. Already, it is well known that some innocent people do go to prison and even get executed.
If we are going to ere on the side of innocence then slick criminals are going to learn to take advantage of that and exploit it. The Trump family have become quite adept at it. It's a family thing, taught from birth. They either go along or they become estranged and excommunicated.
Our legal system is being tested.
