LAS VEGAS (June 17) - Just two weeks after taking the first steps toward a 2012 presidential bid, conservative Republican Sen. John Ensign of Nevada is admitting to an extramarital affair last year with a campaign aide.
Ensign, a rising star in conservative circles and Nevada's most popular Republican, disclosed the affair at a hastily arranged news conference here Tuesday, shattering his prospects for heading his party's ticket three years from now and jarring a state already dealing with a scandal involving its GOP governor.

Best to admit it before it gets aired for you. I don't like him, he wears the pray-more badge too proudly. However an affair isn't necessarily quite the hypocrisy that you get from toe-tapping in men's rooms. All people fail, it is how you act afterward that is important.

The irony here is that he ran his senate campaing on family values!

I dunno Damo. If he had been a mainstreet business type who fell off the fidelity wagon then I'd have some understanding. Shit happens, but when you ran as a "family values" politician, then I'm not so sympathetic.

Ah, the goold ol Christian Coalition. Perhaps they should have checked to see how Ensign voted on the topic: "Should I be a hypocritical scumbag and cheat on my lawfuly wedded wife?"

America loves a good apology. If he humbly and sincerly humiliates himself in public to apologize to his wife and family, he could save his political career.

at least he cheated with a woman and not like Ted haggard or the toe tapper from Idaho :D

So I guess the Christian Coalition still likes him.

Actually, the stance of the Christian Coalition would be to admit it, suffer the consequences, show contrition, and renew your "walk with God." And yes, toe tapping is a bit much for the Christian Coalition.
