Justices rule for student in ‘cursing cheerleader’ case

If we were to create a list of moral principles that most Americans would agree to try to follow in order to live more peacefully and stop barreling down the Highway to Hell at 100 mph, we would first have to recognize the current rules in effect in our society are non-existent, ineffective or are harmful to our continued existence.

So, because America was founded by Christians and we know that Christianity has flourished and prevailed or survived thousands of years with the same rules it always has, lets shop for our proposed new set or principles from what we know has worked, so we won't create something that is bound to fail because it hasn't stood the test of time.

The Ten Commandments have stood the test of time.

We aren't becoming Christians with this exercise, we are crafting a set of standards that will work for the most of us and borrowing proven ideas from the Bible to consider in populating our list of guidelines we all might can live by, for the benefit of us all.

Exodus Ch 20:1-17

The Ten Commandments (plus)

1 Then God gave the people all these instructions :

2 “I am the LORD your God, who rescued you from the land of Egypt, the place of your slavery.

3 “You must not have any other god but me.

4 “You must not make for yourself an idol of any kind or an image of anything in the heavens or on the earth or in the sea.

5 You must not bow down to them or worship them, for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God who will not tolerate your affection for any other gods. I lay the sins of the parents upon their children; the entire family is affected—even children in the third and fourth generations of those who reject me.

6 But I lavish unfailing love for a thousand generations on those who love me and obey my commands.

7 “You must not misuse the name of the LORD your God. The LORD will not let you go unpunished if you misuse his name.

8 “Remember to observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.

9 You have six days each week for your ordinary work,

10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath day of rest dedicated to the LORD your God. On that day no one in your household may do any work. This includes you, your sons and daughters, your male and female servants, your livestock, and any foreigners living among you.

11 For in six days the LORD made the heavens, the earth, the sea, and everything in them; but on the seventh day he rested. That is why the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and set it apart as holy.

12 “Honor your father and mother. Then you will live a long, full life in the land the LORD your God is giving you.

13 “You must not murder.

14 “You must not commit adultery.

15 “You must not steal.

16 “You must not testify falsely against your neighbor.

17 “You must not covet your neighbor’s house. You must not covet your neighbor’s wife, male or female servant, ox or donkey, or anything else that belongs to your neighbor.”

From the 17 verses, first pick out the ones which you feel MUST be included.

Next, pick out the ones which you feel MUST be omitted.
The bulk of them are religious, moral laws which have nothing to do with a civil society
Lying and murder are the only ones with any merit for a civil society.

Yahweh forgot a lot of big ones
Slavery
Rape
Child Abuse
Genocide

And yet here we are on the highway to hell.

We need to create a set of guidelines that most all of us can embrace.

We will not replace religions, we would offer something different. A set of guidelines that everyone can agree on and embrace.

We will agree on adopting ideas which have been proven to work and omit those principles which don't.
We’ve done that, it’s called civil law.

Sorry, you are welcome to follow your Bible. I want nothing to do with it and the country’s governance. I am quite moral without it.

No man is an island.

The next time someone in America does some awful thing, whether it be a legal thing or an illegal thing, think about how ineffective our laws were in preventing that outrageous behavior.

Do you think America, most ALL Americans, would be outraged if a KKK member burned down the house of a Black family?

Yes.

Why?

Because a moral principle, which happens to be in the Bible, was agreed upon by most in our society that murder and murderous discrimination against Blacks should not be done and should be condemned by all good people.

You are not a Christian because you embrace this value.

You are a good person.

We’ve done that, it’s called civil law.

Civil law and criminal law, both have their place.

But before someone might run afoul of either civil law or criminal law, if they carry inside their hearts and minds, a code of behavior, let's call it a voluntary "moral law," which is imposed from within by each person, that moral law would serve to prevent so many people from ever getting to the point where they would violate a civil regulation or a criminal law.

Actually, Christian slave owners used the Bible as justification for slavery and mistreatment of slaves, even murder. The Bible justified killing people for things like homosexuality disobeying your parents and infidelity.

The Code of Hammerabi is older than Biblical laws. Societies had moral laws before the 12 tribes.

Instead of bashing Christianity, try to see this as a shopping spree for sets of values, where you don't have to buy anything you don't want. And if you can find a Biblical principle that you like, add it to your approved shopping list. But if you feel that a certain principle should be added to your shopping cart, go ahead and write it down so it can be considered by the group at a later time.

If the religious law has stood the test of time, it should be submitted to the larger group to be taken under consideration by the populace for adoption.

Try to disassociate yourself from the religion and just think of the principle that you could commit to and embrace and live by, which you would like everyone to also live by.

That should be the criterion.

She is not well mannered in this regard, but that is a subjective standard.

Most of America sees nothing wrong with what she said or did.

And that failure to recognize her actions as a symptom of a problem that allows Americas to become sicker and uglier, gives us a false luxury of blissful ignorance as we keep unwittingly stepping on the gas and hurtling faster and faster down the highway to hell toward our collective doom, where none of US will have any liberties.

If you're this upset over this teenager's one Snapchat comment, you must have been hysterical over trump's thousands and thousands of malicious, vulgar tweets.

I am not bashing Christianity, I am stating facts. Why do people always say this when others point out the shortcomings of Biblical morality?

I have no problems with Christians as long as they did not try to force their opinion of what is moral or right on me. They are free to practice their religion and morals, I do not care. It is just not for me.

Five conservative justices voted with the three liberals in this decision.

I know it's a chore, but please start reading the thread in reverse, start at the latest post and work backwards toward the OP.

That way you will better understand how far the idea has come in such a short span of time.

The SCOTUS only adjudicated the legality of the case.

And the legality of the girl's actions only help justify to many, the decay of our morality.

The SCOTUS decision only keeps us on the same course headed for the abyss at 100mph.

Something needs to change.

That is where the thread is now.

Choosing the moral principles we all can agree on that might make ALL of our lives more pleasant and safe and won't destroy us all and rob us all of any or all of our freedoms.

What religious law has stood the test? Not mixing fabrics? Not eating shell fish? Not working on the Sabbath? Not having strange Gods? Not using the Lords name in vain?
please elaborate which religious law has stood the test of time that benefits society and makes us more moral. There are really very few, as I said, lying, not stealing and not killing are the most beneficial. Honoring your parent is a good personal habit, unless your parents abuse you.

I will ask you one more time to please start reading the thread from the latest to the oldest.

If you post again without becoming familiar with the current ideas being discussed, I will place you on ignore for a long time.

I feel you may be able to add something constructive to the discussion and I encourage you to do so, but the two posts you have made are the same old game that I want no part of here, maybe in a different thread, but not this one.

You persist in finding fault in the religion instead of looking for principles you can commit to living by and which you'd like others to live by.

Is it that hard to do?

I can agree to not murdering anyone. I'd like everyone to agree to not murdering their fellow man.

See how easy it can be?

No, I have found principles I live by, it’s not hard for me at all. None of my principles are based upon religious laws.

You made a statement about religious laws that have stood the test of time and I was inquiring of you which laws. I sited a few religious laws that are of no real value.

Im sorry if you don’t understand how debate or a discussion works.

Who will agree?

You've never seen a terminal cancer patient who looks and acts normal and then, weeks later, when the symptoms are obvious you might say, "oh, that person is dying."

But the truth is that their demise was already certain before you recognized the signs.

The USA has already collapsed and may not be able to get up.

You are just blind to it.
