The remora of JPP
Are you saying that this girl is not well mannered?
We've all admired kids who were well mannered. They were a pleasure to be around.
That's what we need to create in our society.
A set of moral guidelines which would, universally, diminish in our eyes, those who violated our guidelines.
You ridicule it yet you have no suggestions to make things better.
Teenagers have been cussing for many years. Thomas Jefferson complained about students wandering campus wearing pistols and gambling.
We don't want a government that can restrict our free speech and the Supreme Court made the correct decision upholding conservative principles.
Are you saying that this girl is not well mannered?
Not in this regard, but that is a subjective standard.
Most of America sees nothing wrong with what she said or did.
And that failure to recognize her actions as a symptom of a problem that allows Americas to become sicker and uglier, gives us a false luxury of blissful ignorance as we keep unwittingly stepping on the gas and hurtling faster and faster down the highway to hell toward our collective doom, where none of US will have any liberties.
In other words, you are saying that people MUST be perfect?
Not at all.
I'm saying all of American society should adopt a code of ethics and a set of values which we would internalize to keep us from unwittingly contributing to our own demise.
Same principle as not discriminating against minorities, but expanded to make all of us do things of our own accord, which AT LEAST don't make America sicker.
And the set of values we have now are only making us sicker and sicker.
On the other hand, the Bible's principals have been in use for thousands of years.
A revival of those standards but without it being a religion or being called a religion, is what we need to agree on.
But you do still support the First Amendment, right?
Only among a society which is currently or is committed to eventually becoming a more moral or Christian society.

Sorry, I don’t want our laws or anything else based on the morals of the Bible. Yahweh killed young children for mocking a bald man, approved of dashing children’s heads upon the rocks, ordered genocide of the Caaninites and made a man king who murdered his commanding officer so he could fornicate with his wife. But first, we have to stop bringing in or allowing in those who have no reason to abide by our moral code.
Then, we'd have to mount a campaign to popularize the code, once it has been agreed upon.
Use the Biblical guidelines, but in modern language.
Then call it something clever or cute or wild.
Cuz if we don't, we will only continue racing along the highway to hell.
AC/DC - Highway to Hell (Official Video)
Look at how easily we accept a set of values which glamorizes driving on the "Highway To Hell"!!!
It was tolerated before we were able to see what would result from that drive.
But now that we do see the harm to America which is announced every night on the evening news, these lyrics no longer seem like harmless or inconsequential acts of rebellion, does it?
"Highway To Hell"
Living easy, living free
Season ticket on a one-way ride
Asking nothing, leave me be
Taking everything in my stride
Don't need reason, don't need rhyme
Ain't nothing I would rather do
Going down, party time
My friends are gonna be there too
I'm on the highway to hell
On the highway to hell
Highway to hell
I'm on the highway to hell
No stop signs, speed limit
Nobody's gonna slow me down
Like a wheel, gonna spin it
Nobody's gonna mess me around
Hey Satan, paid my dues
Playing in a rocking band
Hey mama, look at me
I'm on my way to the promised land, whoo!
I'm on the highway to hell
Highway to hell
I'm on the highway to hell
Highway to hell
Don't stop me
I'm on the highway to hell
On the highway to hell
I'm on the highway to hell
On the highway
Yeah, highway to hell
I'm on the highway to hell
Highway to hell
Highway to hell
And I'm going down
All the way
Whoa!
I'm on the highway to hell

So that leaves the Muslims and Jews out?
Judeo-Christian principles don't oppose Christian principles.

Judaism doesn't recognize Jesus as the Messiah.
Sorry, you are welcome to follow your Bible. I want nothing to do with it and the country’s governance. I am quite moral without it.We shouldn't throw out the baby with the bathwater.
We should use what obviously works and disregard what doesn't in order to adopt a set of values which will prevent our doing things that most everyone agrees is/are killing our society.
We CAN'T continue this way we are going.
That's unimportant in the context of saving America from plunging into the abyss.
We are able to all mostly agree that bashing Gays is bad and that lynching Blacks is bad.
That may be in accord with or in opposition to some religion's belief system, I don't know. But we can all adopt the principle of NOT bashing Gays or lynching Blacks without our all being expected or required to join that religion or adopt that religion's belief system.
New Living Translation NLT
Using modern English, the translators of the NLT focused on producing clarity in the meaning of the text rather than creating a literal, word-for-word equivalence. Their goal was to create a clear, readable translation while remaining faithful to original texts.

The translators of the New Living Translation set out to render the message of the original texts of Scripture into clear, contemporary English. As they did so, they kept the concerns of both formal-equivalence and dynamic-equivalence in mind. On the one hand, they translated as simply and literally as possible when that approach yielded an accurate, clear, and natural English text. Many words and phrases were rendered literally and consistently into English, preserving essential literary and rhetorical devices, ancient metaphors, and word choices that give structure to the text and provide echoes of meaning from one passage to the next.
On the other hand, the NLT translators rendered the message more dynamically when the literal rendering was hard to understand, was misleading, or yielded archaic or foreign wording. They clarified difficult metaphors and terms to aid in the reader's understanding. The translators first struggled with the meaning of the words and phrases in the ancient context; then they rendered the message into clear, natural English. Their goal was to be both faithful to the ancient texts and eminently readable. The result is a translation that is both exegetically accurate and idiomatically powerful.
More than 90 Bible scholars, along with a group of accomplished English stylists, worked toward that goal. In the end, the NLT is the result of precise scholarship conveyed in living language.
