Justices rule for student in ‘cursing cheerleader’ case

We should adopt a code of ethical behavior which would give us a healthy degree of freedom but which each of us would voluntarily follow as best we could.

Freedom of speech for those with different values than ours or those who have a 'lower' set of ethics or values or morality automatically lowers the ethical restraints of the society.

And as we are so ready to bring in all sorts of people from abroad who are not Americanized to our existing set of values, their having freedoms that we have is like saying that everyone who can pick up a glass should be allowed to drink whiskey.

Freedom of speech is a powerful thing and not everyone knows how to use it wisely.

What you're advocating for doesn't afford freedom at all. It's Sharia law with a different spin.

What did she say that was wrong?

I remember a time when saying "damn" in public was shocking and immediately resulted in some kind of chastisement.*

And instead of saying the word, "Hell," decent people would say, "h-e- double hockey sticks."

*chastisement noun

suffering, loss, or hardship imposed in response to a crime or offense

"Missing the field trip should be sufficient chastisement for the schoolyard fight."

This is the latest example of where our justice system falls short and where Christianity is too weak to save our society from degradation. So, this will breed other examples of degradation over time and we will all lament how bad things are getting, but nothing will seem capable of stopping the slide to a Sodom and Gomorrah state.

Jesus is the answer.

FILE - In this April 4, 2021, file photo provided by the American Civil Liberties Union, Brandi Levy wears her cheerleading outfit as she looks at her mobile phone outside Mahanoy Area High School in Mahanoy City, Pa. The Supreme Court ruled Wednesday, June 23, 2021, that the public school wrongly suspended Levy from cheerleading over a vulgar social media post she made after she didn't qualify for the varsity team. I'm glad the Supreme Court to find the time to hear this earth shattering case instead of whether state judges had the jurisdiction to change voting laws or if that was the state legislatures jobs.

We are seeing that those who have been given the freedom to say whatever they wish, but without the required Christian or moral foundation to be able to handle that freedom prudently, are pushing our society closer and closer to self destruction.

Do you know of a case where a society collapsed owing to the right of its members to speak freely?

In the either or choice of recognizing the problem, which would not help advance your agenda but would be good for America, or choosing to look short sighted and unpatriotic, you choose the latter.

Why?

Religious Quacks cause death and destruction. Who needs THAT?

"The Thirty Years’ War was a 17th-century religious conflict fought primarily in central Europe. It remains one of the longest and most brutal wars in human history, with more than 8 million casualties resulting from military battles as well as from the famine and disease caused by the conflict."

In contests between political entities such as state legislatures and citizens affected by their actions courts are the referees. The Supreme Court acted in that capacity in not interfering with lower court decisions and
declining to hear what it deemed bogus petitions.

You demonize America ignorantly. I say that because America was a Christian oriented society until the 1960's when the evil forces began it's serious assault on our values.

The horrors you envision are based on the history of YOUR homeland.

Not mine.

Mine was largely kind and gentle and tolerant except for the hatred caused largely by Liberal Democrats.

Maybe your comments should be restricted (by yourself) to those dealing with Europe.

Not the USA.

Would you have preferred manifest destiny as an example?

What speech do you want suppress?

I want us all to turn our hearts to a kinder and gentler way which would create a new first guideline in our minds the same way that we have been made to create a first guideline to respect LGBT rights and African American sensibilities.

LGBT or GLBT is an initialism that stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender. In use since the 1990s, the term is an adaptation of the initialism LGB, which began to replace the term gay in reference to the broader LGBT community beginning in the mid-to-late 1980s.[1] The initialism, as well as some of its common variants, functions as an umbrella term for sexuality and gender identity.[2]

A kinder and gentler way which would impulsively make us do what was best for AMERICA by doing what was originally codified in the Bible.

But modernized.

:) Well, I trace my ancestors back to the second ship to land at Plymouth colony, the 'Fortune'. They were 'Puritans' who tried to 'purify' the Anglican church back in England. Once they got here, some embraced 'Quakerism', and were run out of the Colony to settle elsewhere, like Pennsylvania that was a 'Quaker Colony'. So, right from the git-go, the 'Religious Quacks' began causing Problems.

"Boston martyrs
The Boston martyrs is the name given in Quaker tradition to the three English members of the Society of Friends, Marmaduke Stephenson, William Robinson and Mary Dyer, and to the Friend William Leddra of Barbados, who were condemned to death and executed by public hanging for their religious beliefs under the legislature of the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1659, 1660 and 1661.Wikipedia"

See the problem?

Ah I found what she said. She was venting her anger.

In 2017, Brandi Levy posted to Snapchat from the Cocoa Hut in Mahanoy City, frustrated having not made the Mahanoy Area High School varsity cheer team. The picture, with the caption "f*** school, f*** softball, f*** cheer, f*** everything," was brought to the coach's attention. As a result, Levy was suspended from the JV squad.

We are not here to defend that which was the universally accepted practice in those days.

We are trying to find a way to save America from the excesses of freedoms which were not meant for those who weren't/aren't Christian or moral.

I remember how, in elementary school, we were taught about the early settlers coming here to attain "religious freedom.'

We weren't told that they were for all intents and purposes deported because they were such looney tunes.
We weren't really taught about how intolerant of religious freedom the religion freedom seekers were.

I hope that it's much different now,
but the right sure doesn't want it to be.

And if you want to maintain a civil society, you would support the suspension.

But if you have no regard for the socio-political climate or the disease which threatens America, but only the law, you will support the Supreme Court decision.
