Here's the thing: the push should have been to insure that such historical notations be included in the public education of our kids....just as how the Native nations got screwed over, or how immigrants of various nationalities and ethnicity got shafted from 1851 to 1915. Like the commercial says, "the more you know"

A holiday, IMHO is just another "in your face victory" that changes very little....case in point MLK day hasn't stopped the rise of racist hate groups, especially during the Obama years. This may give Uncle Joe and family a talking point in the history books, and the Dem party a "vote for us" point, but in the grand scheme of things, a negligible societal effect. Just saying.
