Probably a bit more, but not much more. Usually luxury watch stores in New York would have several brands, and a stock worth $25 million or more. $2.5 million sounds awfully low end, and only Rolexes, sounds unimaginably low end for NYC. Honestly, this all sounds like a story that someone who has never owned a fine watch comes up with.
And sure enough, I was right. The store quickly did their plan for danger, and locked away ALL their watches. Not a single watch was stolen. For those of you mathematically challenged, that is $0 in stolen watches.

When you have $100 million or more in merchandise, shooting is not going to protect it. That kind of loot brings out some desperate violent people. That is why the store in question used a strong safe, and kept all their watches safe.

That's a bit extreme. What are they going to do with those watches other than wear them? Rolex watches are serial numbered. Want to bet the store they were stolen from knows what the serial numbers of those watches were? Nobody is going to want to take them from the looters for cash, you'd be fool to do that.

You hit the alarm, and get them out of the store as quickly as possible. The whole point is not to have an arms race of who values life less. Through years of testing, this strategy has worked the best, and it worked the best this time. There were $0 in watches stolen, and zero dead.
Not everyone operates a watch store. Are you going to vault up all items in a target? Or any other retail store?
