Coronavirus: The young doctors being asked to play god

"The most anxiety I have is around ventilator allocation. Seeing people die is not the issue. We're trained to deal with death. Nor is it the volume of people dying. The issue is giving up on people we wouldn't normally give up on." She described a patient being brought in from an old people's home. He was already on a ventilator - and was "chronically vent dependent". His prospects were never great. But all she could see before her was the ventilator - and not the patient.
"When he came in we were so desperate for vents," she told me, "all I wanted to do was get the ventilator off him. I wanted to get that vent off him to allow it to go to someone else."
Playing god is not what this young woman thought she would be doing at this stage in her career.

What did you think would happen once GovCo became the sole health care provider? Look at any DMV office for a good example...

When did the Government take over the Health Care Industry?
Are you just making shit up again?

My heart breaks for them, it’s tragic enough that people are dying, but not having enough equipment is an entirely different matter. This will have a profound effect.

 Meaning anybody can go to the Hospital?!?! The Horror!

Ever hear of a "certificate of need"? You need to get permission from GovCo to build a hospital or even purchase certain equipment. A doctor or group of doctors has to prove to the government that these things are needed. The profit motive that allows competition to increase supply and drive costs down isn't allowed. You and your libs friends wanted GovCo control, and you got it.

Unconfirmed anecdote.

Only if you're stupid enough to believe it without a shred of corroboration, and you certainly are, imbecile.

Part of the Job. Make the Call.

Yeah...if two people came in and only one ventilator was available.

But this was a guy ON A VENTILATOR...a guy who had been on it BEFORE coming into hospital.

Do you think it appropriate to just take it from him...and give it to someone else?

And do you think it appropriate to give the power to do that to a doctor...with no restrictions?

What if the second patient is the doctor's brother?

This is a very nebulous area, Jack. Time for the powers that be...to do some serious thinking.

From the article: Half of the patients are undocumented, and don't speak English - they work in restaurants and are hotel chambermaids. They are not "plugged in". The calls for social distancing have passed them by.

Does anyone believe this for a second? I'm calling BS on that.

You just revealed you aren't an American; the US doesn't have a Universal Healthcare system. Are you a Canuck? A Brit? Some other monarchist like your buddy, the Thai cum cleaner?

The whole tale is unverified, and unverifiable, as far as I can see.

It's New York City in the Queens area. Obviously you've never been...lucky you! :)

This story stinks on ice.

Another credulous oldster.:palm:

Combat triage. Trump declared this a war and himself a Wartime President. Losses are expected and sacrifices have to be made.

I'm calling bullshit on this story. It looks like an uncorroborated appeal to emotion that is nothing more than gossip.

If you and Yank want to console each other, please get a room.
