the funny thing is as we age ( mid 60's here) that cold emptiness of Enlightenment is not very comforting compared to the transmigration of the soul to salvation. ( Christianity)

My mind belongs to Buddha but my heart belongs to Jesus ( I was raised catholic) -a dichotomy i struggle to equalize for all my years of awareness. I'm sure I will never achieve certainty either way, but I'm content with that tension

I sent a pm to 'anatta'

Age is a wonderful thing. It's no wonder the sages, elders and Indian chiefs were of old age. They had the wisdom of life experiences and learned from their mistakes. They were content without the overwhelming need for sex or material aspirations and greed which has been the downfall of many men. "Youth is wasted on the young."

Someone asked Bernard Shaw what, in his opinion, is the most beautiful thing in this world.

“Youth,” he replied, “is the most beautiful thing in this world—and what a pity that it has to be wasted on children!”

I have no fear of death, I've lived a full life. The most important thing to do in older age is continued vitality ("motion is the lotion") and continued learning (Kaizen in Japanese). Keep the mind and body sharp as long as possible.

Does one fear sleep? What is the fear of going to sleep with eternal rest? No pain, no problems.

And think of the pain we endured throughout life. Is that something you want to do over again? Sure , if you had to do it over again you'd mitigate the pain with the wisdom you have now but no one has that luxury.

Life is good. As George Washington said as he was dying, " 'Tis well. 'Tis well."

Read these quotes about death and be comforted.

thank you. and as Buddhsts we realize death is the finality of life, but Buddhists also understand samsara
( recycled imperfect karma - but not a recycled entity like a soul) is some thing we would want to end.
The last turn of the Wheel of Life.

On the other hand Christians and Hindus believe in the self, and transmigration of the soul to salvation
or for Hindus reincarnation

The easiest way to deal with these opposing p.o.v is to not worry about it - que sera sera-( Whatever will be, will be)

Christians demand more then this. they demand faith in the Lord. which is not that difficult to do for me either.
In my time of dying, and when loved ones pass, or I am up against it and need help; I beseech the Lord.
That old Catholicism comes rushing back. And I'm good with that as well.
Hopefully Jesus will let me slide if my karma is sufficient to enter the Kingdom,
~~

How about taoists? whats the thoughts on death and afterwards? did you ever investigate that?

absolutely.I've dropped the belly fat and go swimming EVERY DAY for at least 20 minutes of vigorous aerobics and laps.

I look better, I feel better, I think clearer, I have more stamina and strength, I cut back on weed and I'm sleeping better..physical fitness is maximization of ourselves in the material world

looking for isopropyl (sp) for sanitizing a few things. I was low before the panic set in

Have you seen the hydrogen peroxide on the shelf??

You can simply use soap & water, dish soap, bar soap-whatever.. Just be sure to rinse well

I heard there have been a few shoppers in SF going postal in the stores? Anything out of the usual nut cases??

Honestly, I haven't seen it. I've seen a couple of Facebook posts from people referencing crazy behavior but nothing I've come across.
