An educated guess is that the majority of people who collect Social Security disability are faking the severity of their health problems. I can't give an educated guess on military disability, but I don't expect it to be different. Only a small minority of military disabled are missing a limb.

If it was up to me, anyone who served for 20 years or more or had to leave due to a condition that has to do with the military, should never have to pay income taxes for the rest of their life.

Wounded vets get a shitload of benefits, including generous tax-free disability payment. Why do you think they shouldn't pay income taxes on other sources of income? Do you think vet who gets millions of dollars off of celebrity endorsements shouldn't pay taxes on that income?

How about disabled firemen and cops? What about a factory worker who has a leg ripped off in a machine? How about teachers and nurses?

How about making all the income of these "heroes" tax free, wounded or not, regardless of the source of their income?

Why shouldn't they pay taxes, when that wasn't part of the deal when they signed up?

The same with schooling, medical or co-pays, among other things.

All (or most) people in the military are eligible for free schooling (G.Bill). All vets get free medical care for life. Wounded vets can qualify for free housing. Etc. Your graph shows that a 100% disabled vet gets roughly $40,000 tax free. That's about $60,000 to $80,000 wage equivalent. Given that all their medical care is free and don't need to save for retirement, that's a very comfortable life. And, that disability payments doesn't include military retirement income, which disabled vets also get.

Judging by what I know about Social Security disability, even a relatively minor or or easily-faked disability gets someone deemed 100% disabled. Many 100% disabled are very capable of holding down a job. Many of them do have jobs and other forms of income. It's dishonest to portray the typical disabled vet as a double amputee.

Giving vets more benefits beyond what was agreed when they joined is nothing but tribute. If you want to give vets tribute, do it with your own money, not mine.

If you really cared about US troops, you wouldn't tell lies that result in them becoming disabled. E.g. Bush and those who want to pay vets tribute lied American into the Iraq war.
