Illegals overwhelm American city
DEMOCRAT SAYS SHIPPING ILLEGALS TO THEIR SANCTUARIES IS DISRESPECTFUL
Yuma, on the U.S.-Mexico border has become the first in the nation to declare a state of emergency over illegal immigration, echoing officials who say new policies and resources are needed because the surge of families seeking asylum has become unmanageable.
Mayor Douglas Nicholls made the declaration. He said U.S. Border Patrol agents were forced to release nearly 1,300 illegal immigrants in Yuma, which has a population of about 100,000, in the past three weeks.
Nicholls said he worried that there could be a “catastrophic situation” with illegal immigrants left to wander the desert city.
A spokesman for Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey said responsibility to deal with the illegal immigration crisis ultimately fell to Congress.
A Department of Homeland Security official said: “We fully understand the crisis at our southern border.”
Since the start of the federal budget year in October, more than 189,000 invaders claiming to be "families" have crossed the border illegally, more than in any prior full year. Most are requesting "asylum" upon their capture in the U.S.
Invaders who illegally cross the border and ask for asylum are allowed to stay in the country until their requests can be adjudicated, a process that can take years.
