Obama would have backed any group that could bring peace and stability to Egypt. As it happened MB was the oldest politically savvy group in Egypt at the time.

Morsi said Coptic Christians "are certainly just as Egyptian as I am, and have as much a right to this homeland as I do." He said freedom of religion is a right granted by Allah and sharia commands Muslims to respect the rights of non-Muslim compatriots.

Morsi also compared free markets to the Islamic system, but said Islam requires there to be an ethical component to ensure that the poor share in society's wealth

In general I am opposed to the MB in all its variations... but, Morsi wasn't the radical you claim he was... and he didn't "allow" AQ to run rampant in Sinai.

Why on earth do you think he wanted war with Israel?

Like all despots, he needed to divert attention from Egypt's many problems. He had already hinted at intervening in Syria.
