The White Helmets is an unarmed volunteer organization that operates in parts of rebel-controlled Syria and in Turkey. The majority of their activity in Syria consists of urban search and rescue in response to bombing: medical evacuation, evacuation of civilians from danger areas, and essential service delivery. 159 White Helmets have been killed since the organization's inception.

The organization has been accused by the Syrian government and Russian news channel Russia Today (RT) of having close ties with terrorist groups.

Just before all hell broke loose in Syria and Assad ordered the killing of protesters, he announced that he would speak to the people. They were relieved that he would address the reforms he had promised for 3 years.. Instead, he announced the brutal crackdown.. Yes.. Assad is stupid and effete.
