Emanuel declares Chicago 'a Trump-free zone' after DACA decision

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel (D) said Tuesday that the Windy City will continue to welcome "Dreamers" despite President Trump’s decision to rescind the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

“To all the Dreamers that are here in this room, and in the city of Chicago, you are welcomed in the city of Chicago. This is your home and you have nothing to worry about,” Emanuel said in a prepared statement.

The comments come just hours after Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced that the DACA program, which deferred deportation for undocumented immigrants who were brought to the United States as minors and allows them to apply for work permits, would be phased out.

“Chicago, our schools, our neighborhoods, our city, as it relates to what President Trump said, will be a Trump-free zone. You have nothing to worry about,” Emanuel continued.

Emanuel served as former President Barack Obama’s chief of staff in the first year and a half of his White House tenure. Obama created the DACA program in 2012.

“So, to all those who are part of what are referred to as DACA, or ‘Dreamers’, you will always be ‘Dreamers’ in the eyes of the city of Chicago because you have big dreams and we wan to be a part of those dreams,” Emanuel said.

Does that include the dreams of the 30 people shot in Democrat-controlled Chicago (home of The Obama) over Labor Day weekend?

they can be citizens of the new Republic of Chicago.......they will have to pay taxes to M13 if they want to live, though......
 
Chicago (hometown of The Obama) has been a free-fire zone for some time now.

Democrats don't seem capable of cleaning up the messes in the cities under their sway, let alone a nation.

Sorry it was 12, not that the number is nice or wonderful but get your hyperbole correct.

No one likes to see people die. There are areas where folks like you are too afraid to spend time & understand WHY that is happening. That is partially why it continues.
I have no concern though for you getting that, it would undermine your bias. I get that. It's your comfort food.

Salty intellectual junk food for the atrophied mind is like that. It happens, hope there's political hospice for that.

I live in this city, do you? I bet you have no clue how large this area is and that there are pockets, kind of like the rest of the country & planet of darkness. I bet other than your need to find
the worst in the world you do not travel at all, unless it's 'Applebee' save zones of intellectual alzheimer.

Amazing how so few recognize reversing another one of Obama's overstepped XO's and placing responsibility of immigration reform where it should be was the main reason for rescinding DACA.
Trump just might be a mad political genius.
