It is not a fear of corporations, its frustration with corporations. I believe that the system, as set up currently favors those large corporations who successfully promise but do not deliver, choking out those who promise and deliver.
This "system" you speak of. Who set it up? Would that be the government? Who makes the rules that businesses must abide by? Would that be the government? You put your faith in government. Businesses that promise but do not deliver do not stay in business long. I don't think you really pay attention to what goes on. Businesses that stay propped up do so at the whims of the government. The market is a cruel bitch.
With modern day advertising and less ability to check the facts, a corporation can always count on a fresh group of customers rather than depend on repeat business or word of mouth.
You must think consumers are completely stupid. Sure there are consumers that can ripped off. To think you can go through life without getting ripped off is childish. Where do you think the term "buyer beware" came from. But, once word gets out that businesses are screwing people over, businesses aren't in business very long. Again, I don't think you pay much attention to actual individual businesses. Apple seems to do a tremendous job of getting repeat business. You need to provide substantial examples of these claims you are making.
The unethical businesses make more money and are then in turn able to choke out the ethical ones. It makes it almost impossible for the consumer to get a good product.

Now what actually happens is that BIG businesses collude with BIG government to choke out smaller competition. Know who loves regulations more than the government does? Big corporations LOVE regulations. They know they can afford to absorb the costs and their nimble smaller competitors can't. It is a way of creating barriers to entry to competition and in order for BIG business to pull it off, they need a complicit government.
Every industry is different, but this problem is pervasive. I see it in the law, I see it in Medicine, I have recently experienced it in Assisted Living Facilities, the list goes on.
All three of these businesses are highly regulated by the federal government. So your point is what?
The most successful American Restaurants don't sell healthy food, they sell cheap food that can be advertised as a healthy alternative, or simply sold cheap.
So you are saying that the American people want all these healthy alternatives and they just can't get it? Here is a thought, why don't you close up your law practice and open up one of these healthy, cheap food restaurants and show everyone how much money can be made. Could it be that the market is actually responding to what people want? Or do you know best what people should have better than they do?
The "news" media sells lost cost news reporting, not what is important or newsworthy, but what will capture the most attention at the lowest cost to produce. Like I said, its a problem with unfettered capitalism, they corporation that can find a way to trick the consumer into an inferior product wins, and then snuffs out anyone who tries to produce a superior product.
