Racist LA Clippers Owner Donald Sterling is a Democrat, What else is new?

Shorter Mark Cuban:

First, they came for the racists, and I spoke out -- Because although I'm not a racist, I'm sure I'll say something that'll have them coming after me.

A woman couldn't "gold dig" if the man isn't looking for youth and beauty. So both are shallow IMO. 23 yo beauties don't see anything in 40,50,60,70 yo average to ugly dudes. Any more than a 23 yo gorgeous jock is looking at 60 yo women. If you judge one you have to judge both IMO. I personally don't give a crap about it one way or the other.

Beauty and money are commodities that are exchanged in many relationships. Its a different type of beauty than the type that you see once you know someone.

The men who seek to attain and control something beautiful are in the same boat as the women seeking gold.

obviously Darla needs someone to explain the difference between sleeping with someone and raping someone... perhaps a certain Brit is around and could help?

I know racist who sleep with black women. Its about power and gratification. These men would never do to a white woman what they do to black women.

Mark Cuban has a point.

This man should not be forced to sell his team for expressing racist ideas.

He can be disliked, he can be shunned, you can refuse to sell him additional teams, but to divest him of personal property? I'm not okay with that.

Privacy's important Snarla, since most people would never say something for public consumption that they would say privately to a person that they are having a heated discussion with. For instance, Zippygetard would never attack my wife with sexual innuendos like he does here in public, for fear or reprisal from his wife, friends (assuming he has any) and likely his employer.

A perhaps more pertinent example would be your heartthrob maineman, who routinely used the word "nigger" when he was allowed to post here. Another flaming Democrat, by the way.

To the free speech discussion. Charles Pierce is an old Boston liberal so I was surprised to see this comment (this is part of a long article he writes on Sterling's history):

""There have been a number of calls for the league to strip Sterling of his franchise. This, I confess, makes me more than a little nervous. Taking someone’s assets because of what they think and say, no matter how grotesque it is, sets off all kinds of alarm bells in my First Amendment conscience. The league certainly is within its rights to suspend him, for as long as it wants to suspend him.""

Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending the guy, but we also don't know the context of the conversation.

How do you suspend an owner ? 1st amendment ? Did Congress pass a law ?

The NBA should force Sterling to trade the Clippers to the Knicks owner and Sterling gets the Knicks.

Now that would be interesting. As a Warriors fan I love Sterling because if it weren't for him the Warriors would have been the worst franchise in basketball for a number of years.

One big thing would be interesting about your proposed trade to me. LA has always been a Lakers town. The Clippers were always this background team that was awful with this horrible racist owner. With the Knicks being the only team in town (well I guess until the Nets moved) there's no way Sterling would have kind of been in the background like he was in LA. There's no way he would have survived paying as little as he did (until the past two seasons).

The NBA has it's own set up bylaws and it's in there for how you can suspend an owner.

What, exactly, does it mean to suspend an owner? He can't sit courtside or in his luxury box? Has to watch games on TV? Can't talk to the coaching staff or players?

Can't attend games or team functions and has to appoint someone to take over the day-to-day operations of the team.

Edit: From a logistical standpoint I would assume that means you are still in charge financially you just (supposedly) have no say in what happens with your team. If you don't like that you sell. If you refuse to pay in protest the league can take the team from you.

Like the general manager ?

This article attempts to answer some questions. Here is one part:

If Sterling is suspended, who runs the Clippers?

A: The Clippers' plan in the event of Sterling's death, according to sources with knowledge of the situation, has been for Sterling's wife, Rochelle, to take over as majority owner.

Rochelle -- or Shelly, as she's more commonly known -- is a regular at Clippers games and well-known and liked among other owners. She even accompanied her husband to the April 17 Board of Governors meeting in New York, according to sources.

Donald Sterling's son-in-law, Eric Miller, meanwhile, has been working in the team's front offices for the past few years and, as ESPN.com reported early last season, is being groomed to be the franchise's day-to-day voice on ownership matters. An accountant by trade, Miller currently holds the title of Clippers director of basketball administration, and he works closely with team vice president of basketball operations Gary Sacks.

The problem with all of the above is that coach Doc Rivers and his players, sources close to the situation say, want and expect more drastic change than that. Such is the anger within the Clippers' locker room, according to sources, that the response to Sterling maintaining ownership for any length of time -- even from a distance -- is sure to be negative, to put it charitably.

Will players start asking out of the team? Would Rivers, who's finishing up his maiden season as the Clippers' coach and team president at an annual salary of $7 million, consent to come back next season under those conditions?

"Don't know yet," Rivers told reporters Sunday. "I'm just going to leave it at that."

Rochelle Sterling sat courtside at the Clippers-Warriors game Sunday in Oakland, Calif., and declined to be interviewed on camera. She told ESPN/ABC sideline reporter Lisa Salters that she does not believe in or condone the comments heard on the recordings, but it must be noted that Rochelle Sterling was also named in the housing discrimination lawsuit that Donald Sterling ultimately settled with the Department of Justice for nearly $3 million in 2009.

Dude has to sell the team at this point. It would be completely unfair to Clippers fans not to. As it stands, they'll probably lose Doc Rivers in the offseason. Players will start to bail as well, unless it's clear that he's on the way out.

Also, I didn't read through the whole discussion, but this is not a 1st amendment issue.

If it was about being fair to the Clippers fans he would have sold years ago. He is arguably the worst owner in modern sports. (I believe the stat is the Clippers have had the worst record of any team of the 4 major U.S. sports during his tenure.)
