House Republicans sidestepped a charged debate over the distinction between “forcible rape” and “rape” by altering the language of a bill banning taxpayer subsidies for abortions.



The provision in question, written as an exemption from the ban for women who become pregnant as a result of “forcible rape,” touched off a firestorm of criticism.



The fight over the definition of rape and the distinction between types of rape mystified some GOP aides.



“Last I checked, rape by definition is non-consensual,” said one.

 
More strawman bullshit......forcible rape or rape is the same thing......
Rape is defined in law, no one is attempting to change that definition.....adding the word "forcible" is just redundant and has no effect on the law.....
Liberals just need to jump on anything to manufacture an issue where none exists.....make a mountain out of a molehill....
Its like saying "the cold ice"......or 'the warm heat"......words that add nothing to the essence of what is said....

Yet that's exactly what the Republicans wanted to do...add the qualifier "forcible" to "rape".


Since 1977, federal law has allowed the use of government funds for abortion in cases of rape, incest, and to save the life of the woman.


The insertion of language in H.R. 3 – the “No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act” narrowed the definition of rape to “forcible rape” as a legitimate exemption.


The bill would preclude federal funding for abortions of pregnancies resulting from a variety of rapes where force may not be involved, including date rape, statutory rape, the rape of a woman who had been drugged, and the rape of a mentally incompetent woman.


The bill also restricts abortions in cases of incest to females who are minors.


The attention to abortion in the new Congress has created the appearance that Republicans are checking off an important box on the social conservative agenda.


The box that they promised they’d check off is jobs...

Is there any type of rape that is not covered by this definition ?

The line is bold, alone, seems to cover any scenario of you can come up with....that said, I'm not a lawyer....

And isn't it odd that blabo would conveniently leave off this last linefrom the site he quoted:

"Forcible rape is different from aggravated rape. The difference is based on the degree of force employed for the unlawful sexual act and the extent to which the victim resists."

Now why would an "honest" guy like blabo leave off a portion that seems to support the OP?
