Dude.... what the fuck has happened to the UK?

Not a lot really.

The Revenue want more powers as they always have. In the face of massive cutbacks and job losses, a proposal to spend huge amounts of cash on a brilliant new computer system that will surely run smoothly, is not likely to be seen as "a good idea" by anyone except the Tax man.

Lots of money hungry departments frequently propose more money is spent on them so they can implement stupid policies, holding on to budgets and staff. I'm guessing this won't get further that the Revenue's wish list.

it seems that the revenue people in the uk have taken to being diapers

imagine the row that would be stirred up here in the states if some congress critter proposed this

The liberals and the internationalists should be thrilled with this. Why are they not? :)

While there are definitely "hitches' that could occur the overall idea has potential. Income tax could be streamlined. Remove the dozens (100s?) of deductions. Couple it with a guaranteed wage so if someone loses their job they don't have to apply for unemployment benefits.

The employer won't have to send out earning slips every year. The employee won't have to file income tax. When the government doesn't receive a pay check (cheque) :) for an individual it's assumed they haven't earned any money so the government can immediately send out a check to cover the guaranteed wage.

Have the system set up to ensure everyone either pays income tax or receives a check. If an overpayment occurs it can be reclaimed from the tax payer later. Because of the possibility of errors the benefit of the doubt must always be in favor of the tax payer.

The logistics involved would be daunting, however, a fine tuned system would be of great benefit. And always, always back up the files! :eek3:

not a bad idea if computers and humans were not involved...however, as a retired systems analyst...rotflmao

Marxism.

I know people that do not have bank accounts. They prefer to deal in cash. They cash their paychecks, pay their bills and put the rest in a safe. No interest on that, but you don't get much from a checking account anyway. This is the next step to a cashless society, where everything you have cash wise the state is aware of and can control. Fuck that. That sounds like a totalitarian paradise.
