A 17-year-old boy was arrested today on charges he plotted to set off explosives at Freedom High School, which expelled him last year.

Jared Michael Cano was charged with threatening to throw, project, place or discharge a destructive device. Cano also faced charges of possession of bomb-making materials, cultivation of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana.

Police said they found a diary with minute-by-minute plans to carry out the plot, including a reference that he wanted to exceed the casualty count of the 1999 massacre at Columbine High School in Colorado. Thirteen people died at that school before the shooters killed themselves.

Tampa police received a tip about 11:50 a.m. Tuesday that Cano was planning to discharge explosive devices on campus. The bombing was planned for Aug. 23, the first day of school in Hillsborough County, police said.

Police Chief Jane Castor said that if the plan had been carried out, it would have been a "catastrophic event the likes of which the city of Tampa has never seen."

Castor said police received a tip shortly before noon Tuesday from someone familiar with Cano's plot. About 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, police went to Cano's home, where his mother – a teacher at Riverview High School – consented to a search of the apartment.

Police found a fuel source, shrapnel, plastic tubing, timing and fusing devices, all materials that could be used to make a device powerful enough to kill, Castor said.

She said Cano has a lengthy criminal record and has been on the radar of police. He recently was arrested on a burglary charge, stemming from a break-in at which a firearm had been stolen.

WTF is it with gunlovers named 'Jared'? ...Isn't Jared a popular name for righwing Christians?

There is no reference to anyone named Jared in the Bible. I suspect, highly religious Christians might name their kid John, Paul, Matthew, Luke, Mark, Zacharia.. but not Jared, it makes no logical sense whatsoever... but then, look who this is coming from?

"rightwing Christians?" Is that, opposed to "leftwing Christians" or something? The Bible says a Christian is a Christian, and we can tell by their actions, not words. Now, I don't happen to believe everything in the Bible, for instance, I think we can tell by your words that you are neither a left or right wing Christian, you don't believe in Christianity, you don't have religious Spirituality, you worship Liberalism instead. It's perfectly natural, we all have to believe in something and have faith in it, even though you claim you don't, it's apparent.

LmFAOooo.. Okay, yeah... in the "He begot He" part.. there is a Jared! But according to the Translator's Notes, Jared: Heb. Jered. (pronounced, "yeh-red")

I bet a majority of Christians don't know Jared (or Jered) is even in the Bible... imagine that, now you can say you know more about the word of God than most Christians! Aren't you proud of yourself for going and learning that now? I am proud of you, it shows curiosity, and willingness to learn the truth, so there is still hope for you!

It shows that your generalizations and pronouncements are highly suspect and that you lack the intelligence to check your BS for accuracy before bloviating.

Thanks for playing.

How sad....this pinhead thinks if you're in possession of a gun, you must be a gun nut....
by that stupid logic....

If you're in possession of a hat, you must be a hat nut......or
If you're in possession of a paper bag, you must be a paper bag nut......or
If you're in possession of a car, you must be a car nut.....
If the pinhead had any brains, we could call him a brain nut....

the stupidity is mind boggling....pwning the pinhead is about as hard as slapping a kid in a wheelchair....

Jared a popular name for righwing Christians? How about leftwing Christians ?

Does the pinhead think
Genesis is about "Christians".....???? Really ??

I didn't say anyone was a "nut", did I?

Someone willing to break into a home to steal a gun is suffering from a powerful compulsion to acquire a gun - by any means necessary.

Gunlovers would rather die than be parted from their penis substitutes.

Cold dead fingers....

How many kids in wheelchairs have you slapped, Blabo? If I PM you my address, will you try to slap me?

Does the pinhead think Genesis is about "Christians".....???? Really ??

I think Dixtard said there is no mention of "Jared" in the Bible, and got pwned.

Try to keep up.

I didn't say anyone was a "nut", did I?

Then substitute "gunlovers".....it won't change the stupid logic of you post, showing you're a pinhead....same difference...you ain't fooling anyone with that moronic spin....

I think Dixtard said there is no mention of "Jared" in the Bible, and got pwned.

Try to keep up.

And I think you said Christians.....I quote, "Jared a popular name for righwing Christians?"

Then you try to prove it by showing us a one liner from the Book of Genesis...? We ain't buyin' that crap, sonny....

So how do you conclude Jared is a popular name for Christians ? Thats another of your stupid generalizations....

so in conclusion.....your generalizations and pronouncements are highly suspect and that you lack the intelligence to check your BS for accuracy before bloviating.

Jared was a forefather of Noah. Jared's age was given as 962 years old when he died, making him the second-oldest person mentioned in the Hebrew Bible, so he is mentioned in the Bible. the Book of Enoch, which Jesus quoted as sacred scripture but was left out of the compilation at Trent, mentions Jared, also, the spelling can also be Jered, so there is a reference to "anyone named Jared in the Bible"

Christians have adopted it as part of their sacred scripture and use many Old Testament names.

Poor Blabo.

In the OP I asked "isn't Jared a popular name for rightwing Christians?". No conclusion - except for the one you jumped to, you ignorant, cowardly turdsniffer.

The Genesis reference was pwnge of your fellow fuck-face the Dixtard, who stated that the name Jared doesn't appear in the Bible.

Stick to slapping kids in wheelchairs, Blabo. You're no match for adults.

so you're walking down the street and two people are walking towards you.....one is named Jared, the other is named \(\(V\/V)/)/........which one makes you more nervous.....

Still, I bet if you were on Family Feud and were asked to name the Top 10 Biblical names for a boy, the survey would find 0 people said "Jared."
