Ford is shifting all North American small-car production from the U.S. to Mexico, CEO Mark Fields told investors today in Dearborn, even though its plans to invest in Mexico have become a lightning rod for controversy in this year's presidential election.

"Over the next two to three years, we will have migrated all of our small-car production to Mexico and out of the United States," Fields said.

Ford said in April it would invest $1.6 billion to build a new plant in Mexico and create 2,800 jobs so it can build small cars there. Ford also said in 2015 that it planned to move production of its Ford Focus and C-Max hybrids cars from a plant in Wayne, to another country by 2018.

Ford isn't the first automaker move small car production out of the U.S. as Mexico has become a mecca for new automotive industry investment and has surpassed Canada in annual automotive production.

Chrysler Automobiles said earlier this year it will end production of all cars in the U.S. by the end of this year as it discontinues production of the Dodge Dart in Belvidere, Ill. and the Chrysler 200 in Sterling Heights, Michigan.

Automakers that include General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Nissan, Mazda, Toyota and Volkswagen have all announced plans to either expand existing plants or build new ones in Mexico.

Mexico has seen a 40% increase in auto jobs since 2008 to 675,000 last year.

what i hate is the arrogance. Why would you say this now? You wait till after the election to announce stuff like this. They are so confident in a clinton victory that they can announce layoff causing events like this now and not worry about it.

Hasn't trump already said he is going to do something about it??
 
Some form of tariff, although I think he is calling it a tax & as you know a tax isn't a form of gubment interference if it is done for good reasons, & any tax or increase in gubment by a republican is done for a good reason..

Maybe he will build a wall around the Ford factories and get GM to pay for it.
 
Mexicans love trumpf, they even make Piñata's in his likeness they are so fond of him, he's huge in Mexico, they wouldn't dream of retaliating..

“It was just announced that Ford is moving all small car production — all of it, 100 percent — to Mexico. Over the next two to three years. This just happened. We shouldn’t allow it to happen.” ((as a dem he probably doesn't see this negatively, like gubment over reach etc.. More gubment in our lives, not the traditional gop mantra..))

Trump has campaigned on a platform of protecting US industry and jobs by rolling back trade agreements with other countries and building a wall between the United States and Mexico to prevent illegal immigration.

It's a secret plan but trust me he is gonna knock the hell of them, gonna be yuge like him........ It's stupid to broadcast to the enemy what you plan to do, trust me, he said so..
