Will 2014 bring real hope and change?

Republicans count enough competitive races to challenge Democrats for control of the Senate in the 2014 elections.

Republicans need a net gain of six seats to capture control from Democrats, who effectively hold a 55-45 advantage now.

But Democrats will be defending 21 of 35 seats to be decided in November, and President Barack Obama is looking like a major drag for them.

Midterm elections are often tough for a president's party in any event.

"History is with us, geography is with us and the president's signature legislative achievement is the most unpopular" law of his tenure, Rob Collins, executive director of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, said of Obama and his health care overhaul.

Republicans inside and outside the Senate speak confidently about snatching open seats in West Virginia and South Dakota.

They like their chances against Democratic incumbents in Republican-leaning Arkansas, Louisiana and Alaska and remain upbeat about Montana even if Democratic Gov. Steve Bullock names Lt. Gov. John Walsh to succeed Sen. Max Baucus, Obama's choice for U.S. ambassador to China.

Guy Cecil, executive director of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, argued that the presence of tea partyers in primaries is forcing all Republican candidates to race to the right. The result is nominees unacceptable in the general election, he said.

Republicans insist that establishment candidates will eventually prevail and the internal fights won't matter as Democrats struggle with the most contentious issue of the year — Obama's health care law — and the political damage from its many problems.

Democrats don't dispute that the troubled rollout of the health care website has hurt them.

"There's no doubt Republicans are a little more gleeful," said John Anzalone, a Democratic pollster and adviser to North Carolina Democratic Sen. Kay Hagan, who is seeking a second term. "Who can say with a straight face that this has not been bad for Democrats?"

Whereas mid terms are typically a 'ho hum' event, I think the GOP is screwing themselves again. Their voter suppression efforts in '12, proved to entice more voters to the polls. In several states, the GOP is restricting early voting, closing Blue polling places, and making it harder for students to vote.

Couple that with the ongoing denial of womens' rights in many states, and you have a situation where many will view this med term election as the most important in history.

When the ACA kicks in, and millions are thrilled with the outcome, I think the Dems will do just fine.

What the GOP needs is a veto-proof majority.

That is a pipe dream. But with Obama in charge, the likelihood that such a victory would give him a clue and end his petulant juvenile penchant for partisanship and Marxist rhetoric is unlikely.

But dysfunctional government is good government. We have to worry when they can actually get things done. ;)

An amazing and dunce like claim from the uneducated class. Mid-Terms are a BIG deal as evidenced by the 2010 midterms that rightly ended Democratic dominance of Government.

This is another amusing but dimwitted canard; what voter suppression efforts? It is quite telling when leftist dimwits think that their voters are SOOOOo stupid that if not for early voting and requiring ID, they won’t, or can’t, vote.

The low opinion of white Democrats about their huge command over the black vote is quite telling.

Couple that with the ongoing denial of womens' rights in many states, and you have a situation where many will view this med term election as the most important in history.

Another amazing and dimwitted false canard; what women’s rights do Republicans want to deny?

I am amused that you think millions will be thrilled with the outcome given the disaster that has already defined this program with something as basic as getting people signed up via the internet.

You can bank on this much; the internet part was the easy part. Once this mess gets under way and the REALITY of all the lies used to pass this abomination are realized, it could marginalize the Democratic Party for decades.

Ted Cruz brought real hope and change. When America was exposed to what people like you believe in America realized they were headed into an uneducated direction. Obama may not be a good president but people like you make him look smart publically on forums.
