Why we need the Draft Back!

Stop-Loss and multiple deployments and this unnecessary war in Iraq, would have never happen, if we had a draft in place! Can you see the rich and middle class kids fighting and dying in Iraq?! An all volunteer army is a defensive army, not an offensive one, that's why you have stop-loss and multiple deployments! It's also about shared sacrifices too, only one segment of our society is doing all the fighting and dying! Putting a yellow ribbon on the back of your car, saying I support the troops, does not mean sh*t! If we had an all volunteer army in my war, Vietnam or in the Korean War, we would have been defeated militarily like the French defeat in Vietnam! It's sad about the soldier killing five of his own in Iraq, he snapped! I'm glad we did not have an all volunteer army doing World War Two, aren't you?

We did have an all volunteer force during WWII. The Selective Service was instated to handle the massive influx of volunteers that occurred after the attack on Pearl Harbor. There were far too many people for the training facilities to handle so most were told to go home and wait for their numbers to be called.

You totalitarian fucks don't know shit about what it means to fight with men who don't want to be there. A soldier is better off with an empty foxhole next to them than one filled by an involuntary soldier. I had to deal with conscript in Vietnam. I would have rather had 10 genuine volunteers than the 40 draftees they put me in charge of.

As for the necessity for stop loss, you only need go back as far as 1993 to find the reason for it. That was when the democrats gutted the military, cutting 20% full time forces personnel and an unbelievable 38% ready reserve personnel. THERE is the reason for your stop loss requirements now. Because the democrats were so convinced we'd never again need all those people in the military. Their actions cut short innumerable military careers. What do you do with a soldier whose battalion no longer exists except send them home? Then when we need them, the numbers are not there.

Oh, and let's also not mention how the democrats have demonized the war. Then they sit there wondering why recruiting is so poor, so they want to FORCE people to attend the war they CLAIMED they would get us out of.

The list could be much longer...

All these men served....all these men came from rich or moderately rich families
all these men excelled in their personal lives and hold degrees from some of the best schools in the country.....
Your implication that our military is made up of the poor and the stupid is the belief of Koolade guzzlers....prone to believe in liberal propaganda....

Signalmankenneth, how old are you? And do you have any sons?

I think going AWOL pretty much means you can't claim the person served.

Thats why I only included men that served and were NEVER charged or convicted of being AWOL.....
Only those that have been proven to actively dodge the draft and/or never enlisted, didn't serve....
ie...Bill Clinton, Harry Reid, etc....

Medical or family deferments are legal and certainly righteous reasons to not actively serve....

And who was at the top of your list?

Sorry but you're just factually wrong. The draft was implemented in September of 1940 over a year before Pearl Harbor. That was for all men between 21 and 36 years of age.

Singlemans point about having a draft is valid. We've seen the obvious danger of a standing army. Imperialism. There are certainly many benefits to having a standing army but the cost and the propensity towards imperialism are two serious draw backs.

The draft assures a shared cost of war across the board. Does anyone for a moment think that the Iraq invasion and subsequent fiasco would have been possible if the Republican party had to do something as politically unpopular as instituting the draft? They didn't, they tried to shift the burden of the war and they made a big mess of things.

If a threat to this nation doesn't pass the smell test for institution of a draft and declaration of war, then the basis for that war is more than likely questionable. This is one of the most important lessons to be learned from the Iraq fiasco.

I am constantly amazed at those who state that a volunteer army is superior to a drafted one.

Well folks, we've been living with the volunteer version for the last 30 years...and our current status is the result. Bottom line: when EVERYONE'S butt is on the line regardless of status, class or connections, this country will think twice before we decide to invade/occupy.

First : Please provide proof that the selective service was created to handle the volunteer influx.
Second: Stop repeating the long disproving lie that Clinton "gutted" the military. The FACT is that many of his requested increases to the military were blocked by Republicans in Congress & Senate.
Third: The Shrub & company consistently stated that the military volunteer status was more than enough to handle the invasion/occupation of Iraq. That was a lie, as the back door draft has proven.

My husband will do what ever my sons want to do. If they wish to serve, fine, if they wish not to serve, then he will support them in that, also.

He would only fight again if we were attacked here in Alaska.

I think a draft is a good idea. Instead of hearing the Left whine on and on about Haliburton this, Blackwater that, we'll do like we used to do and have a huge support organization of draftees supplying food, fuel, ferry troops and weapons, and provide security. Only the best who volunteer from within that group get to actually fight. Maybe we'll get rid of some lard asses around here as well. :)

LOL

Could you imagine if OB instituted a draft, we would have the largest mass migration of cowardly libtards to Canada.

The Democrats were always pushing for a draft during the Bush era. Now that they've got both houses and the Prez what are they waiting for?
