Why is nothing working for the Liberals?

It seems no matter what the issue or the argument, the Liberals are finding themselves on the wrong end of public opinion across the board. A vast majority of America disagrees with them about the Health Care Debacle, the bailouts and taking control of entire industries, climate change, the Arizona law, and now the handling of the oil crisis. We keep seeing long-standing Democrat seats in the house and senate, going to Tea Party supported Republicans, as the Liberals continue to try and marginalize the Tea Party and Sarah Palin, continuing to lob insults and pejoratives at the right, and continuing to cast blame for all the problems on the previous administration... but it's just not working anymore. They continue to lose and lose badly, and the bloodbath has just begun.

While there is arguably some dissension between establishment Republicans and the Tea Party movement, those differences can be rectified before November, there is an opportunity for the various factions to coalesce with a uniform message in the end. The fracture is much more apparent on the Democrat side. There is a major rift in the party between the progressive liberals and the moderate democrats, and it only continues to grow, as Obama tried desperately to govern from a more 'centrist' position than his base is comfortable with. Regardless of what they try, they just can't seem to get things back on track, and the wheels are definitely coming off.

You would think someone with some political savvy, like a Carville or a Clinton, would clue them in and we'd see a dramatic change in the approach, but not so far. As of now, they seem perfectly content with continuing to bash and trash the right, call names, play the race card, and avoid responsibility for the multitude of failures mounting by the day. I believe this is a doomed strategy, and the most inept morons in the country, should realize that by now... but they don't.

Why do you care? It certainly sets the GOP up nicely, and you can go back to carrying water again when they're back in power.

Gotta be happy days in Dixieland, I would think...

I would say it's way to early for cons to gloat as they are still the minority and things could change a lot by Nov. I want them to take the house or the senate but not both.
Give me some gridlock, because all legislation hits my wallet and doesn't do shit for me.

agreed. please, gridlock. i'll take gridlock over the rest of my life than to have either side in a majority to steal more of my money and freedom.

Trust me. The people are not exactly thrilled with Dems being a bunch of fucking nutless eunichs. Having said that, they aint exactly forgoten what a bunch of corrupt, good ole boy, Fuck ups the Republican are.

Here in Ohio John Kasich, the former region 3 congressman and Fox News Talking head decided to run for Governor against a Democrat, Ted Strickland, who only has luke warm approval ratings. Kasich has substantially more money in his war chest then Strickland too.

Strickland mearly ran two simple adds over two weeks in May, one on Kasich being a board member of Lehman Brothers and a second on his being on the commision that granted China favored trade partner status (a real sore issue in Ohio). Kasich went from having a sizable lead to being behind in the polls.
Now it aint to hard to imagine what's going to happen when Strickland starts playing hard ball in October. This State needs Kasich for Governor like it needs Dixie. NOT AT ALL!!

Well that's the problem. I hear what your saying about grid lock and there's definately some truth to that. Problem is, we still have a whole bunch of Bush's messes to clean up. We just can't sit pat on those messes and let some bad situations get worse.

Dems are lessor of two evils to me, so gridlock is just fine. Going from Ashcroft ATTY Gen locking up Tommy Chong for selling bongs to Holder still allowing Prohibition nearly unabaited is not the sea change people voted for.

GIVE ME MY GRIDLOCK BACK!!!

This IS an interesting thread, though. Dixie always says that the goal of liberals is Socialism, and also posts that America is very close to Socialism now - drifting even closer every day.

So, by Dixielogic, something must be working for the liberals....

Its the cycle that sets up for two term presidents. They lose big in the midterms.

I don't want gridlock but a complete dismantling of federal programs that aren't called for in the constitution. If folks want them so badly then they can lobby for some Amendments. I see a lot of legislative work involved in all that.

Dixies skunk in the wood pile here is that though Democrats should certainly not take the mid term elections for granted. It aint like they got an insurmontable task ahead of them, besides, Democrats have an unuasual ally. Republicans!

Strategically here's what Democrats need to focus on.

#1. Keeping control of both houses of congress. Losing either house would place Obama's and the Democrats legislative agenda into the dark hole. By focusing their rescources on key races, Dems can keep both houses.

#2. Polling data from the primaries showed that Democrats are significantly more motivated to turn out then Republicans. There are a number of issues that Democrats are very motivated about, Health Care Reform, Financial Reform, our involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan, Job, just to name a few. Polling numbers wont' mean a whole lot if more Democrats show up to vote and idications are that Dems are more motivated then Repubs.

#3. Dems cannot allow Republicans to frame the public debate. Democrats need to frame the debate around failed Republican policies of the recent past. That's not exactly a difficult task.

#4. Democrats need to frame debate in populist terms. They need to argue who is on the peoples side. They need to focus voters anger on the people who caused us to be boged down in Iraq, who permited the economic collapse, who ignored the housing bubble. This will be so freaken easy because it's all true. Attacking the air waves about how the recklessness of Wall Street Bankers and their Republican allies cost 7 million Americans their jobs will leave a deep imprint on the American public.

#5. Democrats need to nationalize the election keying in on failed Republican policies and their legacy of being asleep at the wheel.

#6. Democrats have to be consistent. Even if they took unpopular stances, such as in Health Care Reform. They must defend the Presidents agenda or risk being seen as whishy washy.

#7. Dems need to quit being nutless wonders. They need to go on the offensive and paint Republicans into the position of having to defend that they are not pig fuckers.

#9. It's the economy stupid. Job, jobs, jobs, jobs. The more jobs that can be created between now and November, the easier Democrats job becomes.

Now this aint exactly rocket science and is hardly a big up hill struggle. This is eminantly doable.

Given recent Democratic history though, I have a high level of confidence that they can fuck this up! LOL

"#4. Democrats need to frame debate in populist terms."

Yes, the party of the proles.
Grow up and quit being naive. Both parties have populist platforms at the national level. It does really boil down to which party is serving yours and the publics interest the best. That's just a political reality dude so wake up and smell the roses. Smell like horse shit? Welcome to the real world dude.

Well, the Dems have always called themselves the Party of the People, though. Its forefathers were populists. The 2-book set on the party histories are titled Grand Old Party and Party of the People. So, you guys get more crap, not just for pandering, but for surviving via class warfare.

LOL... The skunk in the woodpile is, the Tea Party doesn't really give a flying fuck if you are a Democrat or an incumbent Establishment Republican this year. If you have been a part of this 'too big to fail' bailout everyone, keep the economy afloat by spending our grandkids into oblivion... you are going to be shown the door, and it doesn't matter about the letter beside your name.
