We could cut our military spending in half and be larger than all the military's of the rest of the world combined in terms of defense spending. Like I said previously, how many times do we need to be able to destroy the world in order to feel safe?

We could cut military spending in half and still have a $1 trillion deficit. Now what?

That's what I think is funny as hell about the fiscal cliff. Repelicans have painted themselves into a corner. If they don't come to a compromise with Democrats than not only will the Bush tax cuts be expired but there will be automatic and substantial cuts to defense spending too. Granted their would be some pain for Dems too in automatic cuts to entitlement and social program spending but I promise you, going over the fiscal cliff would hurt Repubs more than Dems and thus, since Obama won the Presidential election, places Dems in the stronger negotiating position and Repubs will negotiate, I promise you that.

Did you think the same thing when Bush won re-election in 2004?

They can talk smack all they want but push comes to shove going over the fiscal cliff hurts them worse, so they'll come to the table ready to negotiate and willing to make compromises and concession.

Personally, It may actually be in our best interest to go over the fiscal cliff. Granted that wouldn't be good in the short term, with a lowering of our credit rating and the possibility it could put us back into recestion but in the long term, it could be the best thing for our nations fiscal health.

If that were to happen, the interesting political question would be "Which party would the public blame?"

Fuck it. Bring on the fiscal cliff. I don't give a fuck. Won't impact me. Fuck everyone else. Why are you worried?

Ive been thinking about the possablity that Democrats and America may be better served going over the cliff, then negotiating. Taxes will be raised on everyone... without Obama taking any action so they can hang that around his neck.. then spending would be cut. Republicans would be so desperate to cut those taxes on the wealthy, they would be willing to accept a better compromise than if we tried to negotiate it before going over the cliff.
Yea you might be right. I think the public would blame Republicans if we went over the cliff cause congressional Republicans (well any congress person actually) are far more unpopular than the President, so I think they would be percieved as the intransigent ones. So you could be right. As for taxes being raised on everyone....I'm ok with that. I can afford to take the hit if it means getting our economic house in order, working down the debt and reigning in spending. We would still be at historically low levels of taxation. Here's what will take us over the cliff. If Dems become adamant on a raising of the long term capital gains tax. Personally I think that has to be addressed cause that's where the revenue is being hidden. The long term capital gains tax is to low.

Obama wants to revamp the tax law as well....it's overdue. Just keep your ear plugs ready to muffle the sound of the high pitched keening...

I wish, at the very least, that Democrats could see the real Mitt Romney. A self-made man, a man of great moral character, and outstanding public servant. You may disagree with him, but to assassinate the person for political reasons is sickening. Both Mitt and Barack are good people. I wish everyone could have looked at the election with that perspective.

I don't think he's a bad man inherently. But I do think he's limited. He seemed to have no concept of how the majority think and feel and he had an inability to put himself in the shoes of people who struggle. I saw a real class divide in him and his gaffes showed it. He couldn't relate on a human level to the masses, like for instance Bill Clinton did. I always got the sense from Mitt that he was above the people he wanted to lead and that we had to swallow his medicine for our own good, like it or not.

I don't think he's a good person. /......I've heard this more than once....some even use the the word "evil".....

I don't quite get it....what did he do or say that reflects that badly on his personal character....?

He was good to a select few, his rich cronies and his fellow Mormons.
