Why can't Catholic priests have sex?

An alleged night of sex at the centre of a controversial Vatican leaks trial never took place, accused former PR consultant Francesca Chaouqui told a Holy See court on Wednesday.

One of Chaouqui's co-accused, Spanish Monsignor Lucio Vallejo Balda, has admitted leaking classified documents to journalists but claims he did so under pressure from his former colleague after she made advances to him culminating in a "compromising" encounter in a Florence hotel in December 2014.

"I never had any sexual relations with him," the heavily pregnant Chaouqui told the court as she gave evidence for the first time in a trial that was adjourned last month for her to have medical treatment.

"His mother was sleeping in the room while he was speaking to me," the Italian said.

Chaouqui, who has previously implied that Balda is gay, added: "He confided in me about sexual matters which I will not recount in full out of respect for his status as a priest. The habit he wears has a value for me."

Maybe if they could have sex or get married, things would be far different with sex scandals and abuse scandals with the church. :dunno:

they can get married, there are some. most got married before they got the calling.
its merely that it is preferable in order to maintain priorities of service.

It's fairly common for priests in Africa and Latin America to get married, due to cultural influences. In the West, though, it's unlikely to happen, unless you are a minister who converts and is grandfathered into the Catholic clergy. However, if you want to become a married Catholic cleric, you can always become a deacon instead of a priest. It's basically our version of a minister.

Gregory the Great and such wanted to control the world. If priests were supposed to be celibate, it meant that a very high proportion of them would be feeling guilty most of the time, and therefore hugely easier to control.

It's bad logic tying together chastity/celibacy with pedophilia.

Maybe but you can tie homosexuality to it. There is historical precedent. But of course you would never speak ill of a queer. It would cause you discomfort. And KKKhristiefan can never experience discomfort even if it means being HONEST

Stupid. If someone is being chaste that means they aren't having sexual relations of any kind.

I think the behavior of many of late has proven that many, maybe most, can and do have sex often. They simply lie about it.

maybe too many pregnancies were occurring and the people were noticing

made them distrust the clergy

how holey can the church be when the priest keep fucking the vulnerable children
