Why a Sarurday morning announcement?

It seems strange to me that Romney burried the lead by making this announcement on a Saturday morning while the Olympics are still going on.

Any ideas as to why?

Good point. It's not like he needs to steal anyone's thunder or try to hide scandals like other presidents have tried to do.

Oooooohhh....must be something sinister about it......
what could it be ?........Lets think now jughead

My guess is to get a jump on the opponents and better control the dialogue on the Sunday news shows. You see, the DNC doesn't have time to get with the MSM and discuss what "hit job" questions to fire at Ryan. There's not enough time to lay out a thuggish ambush strategy or plan, or gin up some contrived lie on him to distract with, so you'll have Ryan getting to actually make his points and deliver his message to the American people without such a fog.

I dont know, none of these explinations make sense to me. It seems they usually try to make a grand and big anouncement when everyone is paying attention. This anouncement did not have that, it was low key and people are already talking about other stuff. They did not get to control the news cycle for the two weeks they could have gotten.

The only way Romney could have gotten hold of the news cycle for two weeks with his VP pick, would have been to pick Sarah Palin!

I don't know... when did we stop picking the VP at the convention after the nomination was secured? LOL

I remember Reagan picking Bush after he and Bush finished a knock-down-drag-out primary. There certainly wasn't a two-week domination of the news cycle over that. In fact, it didn't come until Reagan won the nomination, and there was all kinds of speculation as to who Reagan would nominate. When the hell did that all change? So Romney came out and announced before the convention, and he did it on a Saturday, and he had his reasons... I didn't watch the morning news shows, someone else can comment, but I bet they weren't raking Paul Ryan over the coals about some trumped up and contrived 'scandal' that just happened to pop up! I am assuming that one of the major news programs did interview Paul Ryan, since it should have been the fucking lead story, so what happened? Was it like I predicted? The MSM didn't really have a 'hit list' prepared? The DNC hadn't coordinated the smear Ryan campaign?
