Why $3 gas won't come back anytime soon, even with a ceasefire in Iran

Millions of cash-strapped Americans are probably hoping that the current ceasefire — a two-week pause to hammer out a lasting peace deal — will mean a swift return to where gas was before the U.S. and Israel went to war with Iran on Feb. 28: under $3 per gallon.

After all, haven’t the Iranians agreed as part of the ceasefire to lift their monthlong blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, which has effectively choked off one-fifth of the world’s oil supply? And if oil starts flowing out of the Persian Gulf again, doesn’t that mean gas prices will plummet?

Unfortunately, no — or at least not anytime soon.

“There’s no going back to what we had,” Mark Zandi, chief economist of Moody’s Analytics, told USA Today. “At least not this year.”

It'll take a while for gas prices to fall down again, but they will come down in the long term.

Hyperbolic claim.
“At least not this year.”
Maybe, maybe not. We'll see.

I still find it humorous that lefties have chosen to be outraged about a temporary rise in gas prices when they weren't the slightest bit outraged over paying the very same (and HIGHER!) rates for YEARS during the Autopen's term. It's as if they've completely forgotten 2021 through early 2024.

I just filled up my gas tank at the local Woodmans for $3.499/gallon. I spent YEARS paying AT LEAST that rate during the Autopen's term, and now I'm all of a sudden supposed to be outraged about paying that much during a month (so far) of Trump's 2nd term??

If only there had been an alternative to trump that people actually wanted. Oh well.

And there's also this, just out:

US inflation tripled last month on record spike in gas prices

I'm sure the shriveled Trump-sucking cheerleader will be along with her raggedy pompoms to tell us everything is just fine and it's so worth it. We no longer have to fear that school full of Iranian children that Trump sent to heaven.
Most Americans are blaming Trump.

Nearly Nine in Ten Say Gas Prices Are Increasing

87% of Americans say the cost of gas is going up, including 60% who say it’s going up “a lot.” By comparison, 82% of Americans say the cost of groceries is going up, with 47% saying it’s going up “a lot.” Though views of the economy are often partisan, gas price increases are being felt across parties, with 91% of Democrats, 90% of independents, and 81% of Republicans saying costs are increasing.

This was as predictable as Iran closing down the Strait of Hormuz as both Tulsi and General Caine warned Trump prior to his forever war.

My Democratic Party should be in good position to win back Congress,
almost on this issue alone,
but they always seem to find a way to blow it,
often by campaigning on WOKE issues instead of FDR Democrat issues.

The irony is that they actually could advance some of these progressive social issues
if they got elected,
but they'll never get elected running on them.
For better or worse, and no matter who likes it or not,
most Americans don't care about Palestinian Muslims or non-binary people.
That's an easily observable fact, backed by election results, not personal feelings.

As a Social Democrat, ie., economic liberal,
I'm pretty disgusted with many elements of my party,
but I'm genetically incapable of neutrality,
and the other major party is sufficiently abhorrent to me
that I'll always side with the only other faction with a chance to beat them.

I know that many oppose my position on this,
but I just don't get Independents,
and almost all of them are well to the right of me on economic issues anyway.

In 2022, I was told that it was "Putin's fault" and NOT the Autopen's fault (even though gas prices had already been rising for a whole year PRIOR TO the Ukraine invasion)...

So, in 2026, wouldn't it be the Ayatollah's fault? Why are you blaming Trump? "Presidents can't control gas prices", remember?

About one-fifth of the world's oil passes through the strait, and with restricted access to the waterway, oil prices have climbed globally.

All ships must obtain permission from Iran before navigating the Strait of Hormuz.

Our navy imposes restrictions on traffic through the strait, requiring ships to get permission and pay tolls or face attack.

Iran will bring management of the Strait of Hormuz into a new phase. Your oil will cost what we say it will.

Death To America! Death to Israel!

Time until Legina stands by her man and has me put on forced ignore: 10...9...8.... :rofl2: :ROFLMAO: :rofl2:

Iran has announced a closing of the international traffic separation scheme by mining the area and re-routing ships through a new traffic pattern within the territorial waters of Iran and under our jurisdiction and control.

Not with the high taxes in place put there by DEMOCRATS.

The United States doesn't use any of that oil.

Yet another economic forecast. Yet another weather report for next month.
Yet another Democrat propaganda source.

*yawn*

Looks like you are at Program Step 1: Announce Doom and Gloom.
Soon you'll reach Program Step 2: Blame it on Republicans and Trump.
Then of course comes step 3: Throw Insults.
Then you repeat until dead.

Did you know the program for a housefly is longer and actually contains some 'if' clauses?

Consumer prices in the United States rose nearly 1 percent in March. That is one of the highest short-term inflation rates in years, largely due to the disruption of energy markets amid the unprovoked criminal attacks on Iran.

The US Bureau of Labor Statistics has admitted that inflation in March rose by 0.9 percent, compared with 0.3 percent in February. It was the largest uptick since May 2022, which took place at the height of the cost-of-living crisis prompted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The March increase was driven by energy prices, with petrol going up by 21.2 percent and fuel oil increasing by more than 30 percent.

“The index for energy increased 10.9 percent in March, the largest monthly increase in the index since September 2005,” the government report said.

The US and Israel launched an attack on Iran on February 28, murdering Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei,.

In response, Iran chased the Americans out of the Persian Gulf and Tehran closed the Strait of Hormuz, sending oil and gas prices across the world soaring.

The price for a barrel of oil reached $120, up from about $70 on February 27.

In the US, the price of one gallon (3.8 liters) exceeded $4.1. It was less than $3 before the criminal attacks began.

You Americans have only just begun to realize the folly of your actions.

Our response will devastate you.
