Police have arrested a man accused of assaulting Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) at his home in Bowling Green, the senator's office confirmed on Saturday.

"Senator Paul was blindsided and the victim of an assault," Kelsey Cooper, a spokeswoman for Paul, said in a statement. "The assailant was arrested and it is now a matter for the police. Senator Paul is fine.”

The suspect was identified as 59-year-old DEMOCRAT Rene Boucher of Bowling Green, according to a statement from police. The Warren County Attorney's Office issued a warrant for Boucher's arrest shortly after the assault.

Police are investigating the assault, according to the statement.

A senior adviser for Rand Paul says the U.S. senator is recovering from five broken ribs following an assault at his home.

Doug Stafford said it is unclear when Paul will return to work since he is in considerable pain and has difficulty getting around, including flying. Stafford said Sunday that the broken ribs include three displaced fractures, which can lead to life-threatening injuries.

FBI has confirmed the motive behind the assault on Sen. Rand Paul



The assailant, 59-year-old Rene Boucher, is a registered DEMOCRAT whose Facebook page was riddled with posts voicing his opposition to President Donald Trump and the GOP.

Boucher allegedly assaulted Paul while he was mowing his lawn.

Attacks on conservatives have become all too common.

Washington D.C., was shaken this summer when a DEMOCRAT gunman opened fire on a field of GOP congressmen practicing for the annual congressional baseball game. Thankfully, no one was killed in the shooting, though multiple lawmakers, including House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.), were injured in the brazen attack.

Media reports that the savage assault on me were over a "landscaping dispute" are FAKE NEWS, says Senator.

Sen. Rand Paul tweeted last night to confirm his serious injuries following an alleged assault by his neighbor, he followed up with two tweets to stories pushing back on the widely-reported narrative that the dispute was over landscaping.
