What the world eats for breakfast

In the UK no-one eats that breakfast any more except in bed-and-breakfast joints, where it is used to justify high prices. It is far too greasy for nowadays. Porridge, incidentally, is Scottish, not English.

You have to click the link and watch the short video. I wonder how authentic this is, perhaps some of our illustrious and august members who either are from or have been to other countries can enlighten us.

Please, don't make this a hate Justin Bieber thread. I LUV you guys, my sweet little fans.

Yeah, that's a nice little video. I can tell you from experience that the Great Britain breakfast is a blend of itself and Australia: Scottish breakfasts are HUGE.

Thank you for clarifying. Would you like a free copy of one of my records? Or would you rather I pay you to destroy one of my records?

In southeast Asia the typical breakfast of rice porridge is common, so is marinated fried beef or sausage served with garlic fried rice and a fried egg is very common. So is salted fish and rice. Another popular breakfast is cooked greens mixed with tomato and shrimp paste and, of course, served with rice. When I'm over there my typical breakfast is fresh fruit, rice and coffee but you have to be careful in that you can pick up bacteria your guts not used too and get a case of Montezuma's revenge eating the native fruits but there is a spectacular variety of fruits in the tropics.

The Vietnamese probably have the best breakfast. Pho rocks.

I hate pho, but I do love that I live down the highway from Pho King!
You haven't had it in the right perspective. Waking up to a dew drop covered landscape in a farming village in SE Asia with the cocks crowing and the dogs barking at whatever the hell they bark at and the temps is bearable before the heat and humidity of full day has, to say the least, a unique feel.

In SE Asia some older woman will put bones and tendons and cartilage, scraps of meat, tripe, with herbs and aromatics, in a huge 5 gallon pot, at night, that will simmer all night long and in the morning pure magic happens. She'll have just this incredible stock. She'll then either load up her stock and the fixings in a motor cart or set up in a convenient location in the village. You'll give the lady about the equivalent of a quarter and she'll put some of noodles in your bowl with some fresh basil and bean sprouts and thin slices of pork or beef and then cover it with that magical boiling hot broth. You then squeeze a little lime and add a bit of chili oil and if you pay the lady about a dime more she'll add a fresh egg to your Pho and then you squat with everyone else and blow on your noodles till their cool enough to eat and slurp your noodles and chika about the local news and gossip. It's a hell of a way to start the day.

I pass! :) Our favourite breakfast is a seaweed fried in oatmeal, sometimes with other fried stuff, but we are a tough lot.
