“I am not an advocate for frequent changes in laws and Constitutions. But laws and institutions must go hand and hand with the progress of the human mind. As that becomes more developed, more enlightened, as new discoveries are made, new truths discovered and manners and opinions change, with the change of circumstances, institutions must advance also to keep pace with the times. We might as well require a man to wear still the coat which fitted him when a boy as civilized society to remain ever under the regimen of their barbarous ancestors.” - Thomas Jefferson

Appears two centuries ago Jefferson pulled the rug out from beneath Scalia and the right’s theory of “Originalism” and exposed it as pure bullshit

But, but, but, the Constitution says we have the right to a AR15 and AK47 regardless of its capacity

you completely misunderstand jeffersons statement, not surprisingly, as well as the whole fucking reason the Constitution exists.

Here's what the right does not understand.

By seeing the NRA prevent even modest gun safety legislation, they are pushing the left to want to abolish the 2nd.

As gun deaths rise, and with the impact of inevitable future increasingly tragic mass shootings, and the growing intransigence of the right's swing toward extremism and eventual downfall as a horrified nation reacts to extremism, there will come a point where it will become possible to amend the Constitution, and the 2nd will be updated.

Gun fanaticism + intransigence = the 2nd on the chopping block.

It's only a matter of time.

What do you want to guess this new legislation will be challenged and thrown out by the SCOTUS?

Is it DOA before Biden even signs it?

Define "modest gun safety."

Here is where so many of us see things differently. The gun regulations I see in place right now I would describe as “modest.” I likely would characterize gun regulations brought by the left as … draconian with underlying efforts to eliminate entirely.

Poor anchovies, Thank you for your tom hartman like response. Take your bullshit up with the Supreme Court.

BTW did you type your response or write it with a quill on parchment?

And here is the left's general observation of the right:

"Save the unborn so they can be shot."

clueless. "institutions" is not the Constitution. Originalism is actually "textualism" (Scalia)
Originalism relies on what was the original intent ( say of a legislature)
But textualism relies on actual text, not an interpretation as does Originalism

"living document" is just as excuse to legislate from the bench

Well, we could always repeal the 2nd Amendment, and then refuse to uphold the common law that it protects...
