What I am most thankful for this year...

I am thankful I liquidated my stocks last year when Obama was elected, and invested in Gold!

I am thankful I cashed in my 401k before it tanked, and invested it in Gold.

I am thankful for the Salvation Army and Good Samaritans organizations, for continuing to help the needy in spite of the relentless attacks from anti-religious idiots.

I am thankful for my family, and their ability to resolve their drama without putting me in the middle the past year.

I am thankful for my kids, who have finally grown up and are responsible enough to take care of themselves now, without my financial assistance.

I am thankful for my Mom, who will, this year, take the first Thanksgiving off I can ever recall, to travel to North Carolina to spend time with her friends instead of slaving over a hot stove all day.... Have fun and enjoy yourself Mom, you deserve it!

I am thankful my home is paid for, and I have zero debt.

I am thankful for all my friends... even the liberal ones.

Amen!

I forgot to mention (and I am so embarrassed) I am so thankful for the men and women serving in our armed forces. For yet another year, you are stuck in some third-world hellhole thousands of miles away from your loved ones, in order to serve our country. Risking death on a daily basis for what may end up being a mere footnote in history, if your CinC gets his way.

I am probably more thankful for you guys and the job you do, than anything else I initially listed, and I want to publicly apologize for totally forgetting to mention you.

Also thankful fooooor the septic system, because without it, humanity would have problems

I'm thankful for heavy metal.

Here is one from the archives, bear in mind that Heavy Metal was a British invention. I have also included one of the finest Irish exponents of the genre namely Rory Gallagher.

Not quite Tom. Awesome song, but not heavy metal.

THIS, however, [nomedia="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jgqxQmAbTBc"]YouTube- Iron Maiden-The trooper videoclip[/nomedia]

I'm aware it's a British invention, and the best artists from the era are from that region. Never heard Rory, so I'll check that out. But you can't deny Sabbath, Maiden, Budgie, Judas Priest, Etc. And then you have the American pioneers in the thrash era, who were inspired by the NWOBHM.

Again I have to call you to task, how can any self respecting Irishman not know the late great Rory?

I was a teenager in the 70's and for my sins I saw most of the ones you mentioned as well as Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Captain Beefheart, The Who, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Ten Years After, Deep Purple, Grateful Dead, Hawkwind and many more. I realise that some of them aren't strictly speaking heavy metal but so what, I am in boasting mode now.

Dixie, you are lucky.

Have fun and enjoy yourself Mom, you deserve it! I miss my mom so much. My Dad surprisingly no less. We didn't see eye to eye in 45 of the 52 years of my life, before he passed. Somehow in those years, wounds healed. Wow, just in time to hurt so much more.

I am thankful my home is paid for, and I have zero debt. No chance of that for me. Indeed, today it got worse, perhaps. Then again, maybe better. More later in general stuff.

I am thankful for all my friends... even the liberal ones. LOL! Me too. I've more 'liberal' friends than conservatives, yet we eventually always arrive at respect. Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. I did. Though the day after sucked.

Amen!

Almost all of them aren't heavy metal. They're close, but the genus of metal starts with Black Sabbath. Those bands played their part in moving rock'n roll away from the blues and onto a different track, but they stayed in that rut once they got there. Sabbath came around and changed EVERYTHING.

Tommy Iommi is a true guitar God in my opinion, especially when you consider that he lost the tops of two fingers and strung his guitars with banjo strings which were a lighter gauge than even the lightest guitar-strings of the time and wore plastic covers over the two damaged fingers. He fashioned the latter himself, by melting plastic liquid-soap bottles into a ball and then using a soldering iron to make holes into this ball, putting his fingers in while the plastic was still soft enough to be shaped. He then trimmed and sanded away the excess plastic to leave himself with two thimbles which he then covered with leather, to provide better grip on the strings.

There were three bands who can be called the originators of heavy metal, you named one but the other two are without doubt Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin. I would also suggest a fourth as well, namely Iron Butterfly.
