A Vietnamese automaker announced plans Tuesday to build a plant in North Carolina to manufacture electric vehicles, promising to bring 7,500 jobs and ending the state's streak of near-misses for landing carmakers.

VinFast will build its first North American plant in Chatham County southwest of Raleigh, with production expected to start in 2024. It expects to employ 7,500 by 2027 with average salaries of $51,000, according to the state Commerce Department.

“VinFast’s transformative project will bring many good jobs to our state, along with a healthier environment as more electric vehicles take to the road to help us reduce greenhouse gas emissions," Gov. Roy Cooper said in a statement.

The company is building on a nearly 2,000-acre (800-hectare) site that's about a 30-minute drive southwest of Raleigh and is expected to invest $4 billion in the plant. The plant is slated to be able to manufacture 150,000 cars per year. The state has agreed to use job development grants to reimburse $316 million over 32 years if it hits job-creation and investment goals. The state is also planning to provide as much as $450 million for site preparation, road improvements and other infrastructure work.

That is great. Guno, you might actually be able to get a job. I am sure they have a quota to meet hiring the mentally handicapped.

Poopeye, speaking about hiring the intellectually handicapped, when are you going to apply for a job that is suitable for your low mentality?????

Approved by NHTSA?

What's the range on these cars?

I swear, I could come up with a very small 4v/cyl diesel/electric engine hybrid much like what drives trains that would be greatly efficient and powerful and not require much drain on the electrical grid.

It would require 1-2 large pieces of big steel flywheels rotating rapidly. And lots of gears. Big, 9-plate wet clutch, too. Be nice to have it have an automatic transmission.

It would need a battery (2) but not the size of Tesla batteries at all, and no charging or draining the electric grid unless charging the "interim" battery.

You are so fucking stupid that you dont know that when we get to celebrating that the Vietnamese are building a car plant in America then we have surely lost.

.
Truly astonishing that a racist like Guano, who refers to the Vietnamese as Gooks, should post this, what next?

The innovation comes from where it does. :dunno:

Rarely does it come from China or Russia.

Taiwan? Yes.

Government subsidized US auto makers are not really doing good with R&D.

I have a dream of an old-school type of vehicle with a new type of propulsion.

Manual windows and locks. All computer garbage is optional, yet available, everything else is simple mechanics.

Small diesel and big eletric engine with a big flywheel and a lot of gears. The diesel ouput has to be maximized and over-specced on the durability and should be about 1/3 to 1/4 of a current 4 cyl diesel engine. Probably with a double sturdy turbo, too.

That's just to rev up the flywheel to get the electric motor ready to jam. The electric motor will be doing all the work.

Very small diesel> Big flywheel> Big Electric motor> Drivetrain.

It can be done. Certain things have to be done for safety about the big and fast-spinning flywheel (or 2) though, in case something cuts loose.

Because America builds very little now almost all of the innovation happens in China.

Mother Fucker.....It is time for you to wake up!

China is ass, their steel is ass, their vehicle innovation is ass, you are dead wrong. Their quality of manufacturing is ass for 80% of what they produce.
