Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins on Thursday said the Trump administration is planning to have all Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP) beneficiaries reapply for the program due to alleged fraud.

The secretary said after receiving data on SNAP recipients from 29 red states that “186,000 deceased men and women and children in this country are receiving a check.”

I voted for this

Now do Section 8.

The problem with that is, SNAP is run by individual states and supplemented by federal funds.

This means the benefits you would get vary by state too and the difficulty in applying for benefits varies by state as well. Also--no surprise here--the top three states for SNAP fraud are California, New York, and Maryland. New York takes the prize for top spot for SNAP fraud.

So, if the state doesn't give a shit about the fraud, it isn't going to get better if those getting it have to reapply periodically. Just like the CDL problem, if the state is willing to look the other way, break the rules, or doesn't care, the fraud won't stop.
