WASHINGTON D.C. (WABI) - The U.S. Department of Agriculture has announced that SNAP benefits will not be issued for next month.

It comes as we enter day 21 of the government shutdown.

SNAP, which is short for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, is a program to help families with the cost of food.

42 million Americans rely on the program, almost 170,000 of which live in Maine.

Why aren’t Republicans negotiating with Democrats?

Nothing to negotiate until Schumer lets his minions vote for the clean CDR.

They left DC.

No, they didn't.

As of October 22, 2025, the U.S. is in the midst of a government shutdown that began on October 1, and Republican congressional leaders—such as Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD), Senate Majority Whip John Barrasso (R-WY), House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), and others like Sen. James Lankford (R-OK) and Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) remain actively engaged in negotiations and public appearances at the Capitol.

Recent reports confirm these figures were present for policy discussions and press events as recently as October 21.

While some rank-and-file Republican members have departed DC for weekends or district visits amid the impasse (as is common during extended shutdowns), the majority of the party's 220 House and 53 Senate members are still based in the area and continuing legislative work where possible.

The Democrats stayed to work.

No, they didn't. The ones in the Senate stayed to filibuster.

The majority isn’t buying what you’re trying to sell.

So you say.

I don't care. The only votes that count are the ones that Schumer is stalling.

Over what? The House already did its job. and voted to keep the govt. open.; The Senate Dems are trying to force Americans to shore up failing Obamacare and are punishing Americans to do so.

The Republicans will not allow actual taxpayers to foot the bill for free Healthcare for illegals. What part of that do you not understand?
