US won’t send Ukraine rocket systems that can reach Russia

President Biden on Monday said the United States will not send rocket systems to Ukraine that could potentially reach into Russia, after reports that the administration was preparing to send long-range systems to the besieged European ally.

Multiple outlets had reported that the administration was leaning toward sending advanced long-range rocket systems to Ukraine, which is currently fending off an invasion from Moscow -- and to which the U.S. is providing significant economic and military support.

Biden was asked about the potential move by reporters outside the White House and said that his administration would not send Ukraine rocket systems that strike into Russia.

The Washington Post reported that the administration was mulling providing the Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS), which would allow Ukrainians to fire rockets much further than they are currently able.

MLRS had reportedly been a top request from Ukrainian officials, who say they need it to stop the advance of Russian forces in the east, which has taken control of the key city of Lyman last week.

Rebekah Koffler, former DIA intelligence officer and author of "Putin’s Playbook," said that sending those systems to Ukraine would be seen as escalatory by Moscow, which comes with significant risks and a potential Russian response.

"Whether we believe we are climbing the escalatory ladder or not, it's irrelevant, it's how the Russians perceive it, because they are acting on it," she said.

The US will send Ukraine more advanced rocket systems to help it defend itself, President Biden has announced.

It's kind of a silly distinction, because there are spots in Ukraine where you could reach Russia by spitting, literally. They border each other. So, what's really being said here -- that the systems won't be able to reach major Russian cities from any area controlled by Ukraine? Is Biden worried that Ukraine will act like Russians, and rain down mass murder on large civilian populations?

If you are shocked, then your news sources must be very crappy, because Biden has said for 6 months he is only going to provide defensive weapons systems to Ukraine. There is no need for us to to give them missile systems which can hit Moscow.

Many of your ' large civilian populations ' have been refused permission to leave the country, have been forced to bear arms, women and children manufacturing I.E.Ds and Molotov cocktails in the streets and are also used as human shields by the Ukrainian Nazis. These Nazis have actually ' rained down mass murder ' on them themselves when expedient .

Officials said the plan is to send Ukraine the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System, or HIMARS, which is mounted on a truck and can carry a container with six rockets. The system can launch a medium-range rocket, which is the current plan, but is also capable of firing a longer-range missile,

Artillery with a range of 45 km are not weapons that threaten Russia.

You must have been reading Kremlin state media if you were somehow convinced Biden was going to give Ukraine ballistic rockets capable of reaching Moscow and deep into Russia.

It is, indeed.... and that has contributed to Russia having one of the lowest life expectancies in the world -- lower than the Philippines, in fact. On paper, Russia should be rich enough to finance decent lives for most of its people. But, sadly, it's headed up by a fascist whose corruption is only matched by his incompetence. So, they piss away that vast oil wealth on harebrained schemes like trying to grab land from peaceful neighbors. Meanwhile that culture of corruption spreads, so that more and more national wealth goes towards things like buying Putin's flunkies mega-yachts, while everyday Russians starve.

Biden may be worried about reports that Putin has moved himself and his family into a bunker, coupled with the grim outlook for him, for Russia, for everyone else, of the coming aftermath of the Ukrainian debacle.
