Unemployment has only been on par with pre-pandenic levels for a quarter and most are not new jobs only jobs that were on hiatus due to the artifical economic shut downs in blue states and cities, the annual number is what's important because we are heading headlong into recession and likely into a depression because it's already too late for the Fed to get inflation under control even after they raised interest rates and ended quantitative easing.

It would be nice if, after all of this progress, we could just get back to the "Total Employed" level of December 2019. Still not there.

December 2019 = 158,803,000. April 2022 = 158,105,000 employed.

If the 11 million jobs open right now today were filled tomorrow, tomorrow's total would be higher than 2019.

It is possible to get all those open jobs filled. What's holding progress back?

It is interesting that the last time this happened 1946, was not known as a time of economic hardship. Hourly productivity goes down when you hire a large number of people for new jobs.
