From this weekend's NY Times. I wasn't able to access the article (though I have a pretty good idea of what it's saying) but if you follow the Twitter thread from the author he offers some good insight. This focuses on a an old female Boomer NIMBY. The author makes reference to her growing up in a time where environmentalism, anti-growth and over population were preached, therefore this (and the other) NIMBYs who share this viewpoint think they are in the right. (Of course NIMBYs choose to ignore is that with a growing population where are people suppose to live? And if you claim to care about the environment how does preventing development in urban area around transportation help the environment when development is this forced further and further out?)

The author brings up for us younger folks what have we been taught in our youth that is deemed correct at the time but attitudes later change however we hold on to them? (similar to the woman profiled)

Being in California this stuff dominates the news. I'm sure for those in other parts of the country not so much. But ultimately it has an affect on all of us as NIMBYism contributes to rising housing costs and making our economy less dynamic overall.
