As US/ Kurdish force Moves on ISIL at Manbij, Turkey goes Ballistic

If Manbaj soon falls, as seems likely, Turkey will face the fait accompli of a new Kurdish mini-state on its border. Ankara is obviously furious at the US, which is urging the Kurds on. Despite Turkish oral offers of assistance, the US Pentagon has clearly decided that the YPG Kurds are the only game in town if the goal is to defeat Daesh in its lair of al-Raqqa. There are likely to be long-term repercussions for the US-Turkish relationship, on both sides, of these dramatic events.

What will it take for NATO toi cut Turkey loose ? An actual Turkish attack on NATO forces ?

The German parliament has approved a resolution declaring that the mass killing of Armenians by Ottoman Turks during World War One was a "genocide".

Armenians say up to 1.5 million of their people died in the atrocities of 1915. Turkey says the toll was much lower and rejects the term "genocide".

The timing is awkward, as the EU needs Turkey to help stem the migrant influx.

Turkish president Recip Tayyip Erdogan said the resolution risked harming ties between the countries.

Not a lot of good news for the Turkish government lately. Still- what is ' a bad time for truth ' supposed to mean ?

where is Turkey supposed to go?

Turkey doesn't have to ' go ' anywhere. It needs leadership which will accept Kurdish rights though

The purpose of NATO is mostly an anti-Russian alliance, obviously Turkey is a key component. If you throw out Turkey, you may as well dismantle the alliance.

Well, that's the problem. How naughty a Naughty NATO will NATO allow Turkey to influence it.

have you thought about the geography for a Kurdistan? Do you think it should stretch along the Turkish/Syrian border to give access to the sea?
Do you think it would be just landlocked and more regular shaped taking in both the Iraqi/Syrian kurds?

I offer the concept of Overlapping States.

hmm. I don't think you are going to get both Iraq an Turkey to buy in to that - but that's not bad.
Sort of like east and west Pakistan was?

Tis a puzzle. If it's mostly Iraqi based, then Turkey would would be more amendable -
but if Iraq remained an autonomous zone an a Syrian carved state ,it would be more viable...dunno

It's a starting point for peace. An opportunity for both states to command the world's attention by way of a leading-edge exercise in co-existence. Admiration, status and wealth await.

They deserve a state(s), other then the Iranians who are not there for altruistic reasons -they've taken it to ISIS
