I think you conspiracy theorists forget why polls are done. It is to understand where the people are, and how to lead them to where the leaders want them to be. It is not for publicity, that is just a side effect. If the leaders allow the polls to be ruined, they will lose control of the situation.

It would be like the ship captain changing the known position of the ship. It does not actually change the position of the ship, just makes it impossible to change the known position of the ship safely.
