Trump's abysmal economic record

We all know the #'s. Record unemployment claims, slowest growth in decades, worst jobs record in modern history, et al.

So why are we supposed to believe Trump would somehow have a "better" economy right now had he won a 2nd term, or that he would have "saved" the economy? On the latter, he would essentially be "saving" the economy he ruined as President in his 1st term.

And spare me the COVID argument. If you want to present that, name the last President who hasn't had to deal with and navigate at least one major crisis.

Give Biden some time. He's been President for a year and a half, and the employment #'s have been excellent. Other measures are going up. Inflation - a global problem - was inevitable, but even that may improve significantly by the end of the year.

Stay the course.

Fortunately, we have a track record for Biden.

Biden has been wrong on every major foreign policy decision ...

Aug 16, 2021 — You have to give President Biden credit for consistency. Unfortunately, he has been consistently wrong. As Robert Gates, former defense secretary

Everything that Biden has done since becoming president has been wrong and has harmed hardworking Americans.

If I may ask, what other numbers are going up? Unemployment numbers are about to rise. We had negative GDP growth in the 1st qtr. We could possibly be in a recession right now. If we’re not there’s a good chance we’ll be in one soon. The stock market hit bear market territory and we have 40 year high inflation numbers.

You like Biden, fair enough. But the economic data I posted is fact. But because you like Biden you’re trying to spin it into something it is not

I don't even like Biden that much - but I prefer Dems in office for the economy, for obvious reasons. Honestly, they always just do better. In his 1st year, GDP was up significantly (last quarter wasn't so hot, but that's not a trend yet). Every major sector has seen job gains since he took office.

There is a lot of Recession hype right now, but let's see how it plays out. Trump's economic "plan" was always short term - the measures he passed early in his admin, like the tax cuts, were designed for a short-term boost, and laid no long-term foundation. He wanted the GOP to do well in the midterms. And then he botched the COVID response.

Biden inherited a mess, and a lot to fix. I don't think he's doing amazing, but he has a plan, and economic policy doesn't have immediate effects. I'm just glad we have someone in office who understands what gov't can & can't do when it comes to the economy.

Support who you like, vote for whom you like. To each his own. Economic reality is economic reality. I’m curious what numbers you are saying are up. Again, unemployment is about to rise. We just had negative 1st qtr GDP growth. The stock market hit bear market territory and we have 40 year inflation high. We could be in a recession already and Powell came out today and said raising rates could cause a recession.

This has a pissing on me and saying it’s raining feel to it.

(Housing prices did hit a high last month but that’s about to change real quick with rates rising.)

These far left Democrat Socialists will soon be taught a severe lesson about the economy...inflation.

Inflation is the number one policy issue with crime and the border not far behind.

“We just had negative 1st qtr GDP growth. The stock market hit bear market territory and we have 40 year inflation high. We could be in a recession already and Powell came out today and said raising rates could cause a recession.”

This is what is sinking the Democrats.

The mistake is to assume the president has all the control over inflation. He has very little, actually. Biden is doing what he can. A good job in a tough situation. Folks, we have maturity and empathy.

I'd like to hear a DT fan explain exactly what DT might do differently that would bring inflation down.

That should prove interesting.

It's always easy to attack the incumbent.

Gets a little tougher when people want to know what the plan is to do things differently.

"Oh, just don't be in a pandemic, or allow Russia to attack Ukraine."

Riiiight.

Not helpful.

Doesn't inspire much confidence things would be any different.

The biggest issue goes back to the lack of leadership in the initial pandemic response. Why was there no talk of having the government pay employers to keep workers on the books? Why did so many businesses fail? Why didn't the government do a better job of preventing businesses from going belly up and workers from losing income and healthcare.

Agreed, throwing money at the general population was not the best idea, but a lot could have been done with targeted injections where needed most. Put the economy on hold until it was safe again. Keep jobs and businesses in place. That would have been smarter. A bold proactive president could have championed that. Not a Republican one. That would never have happened. Any Republican would have essentially said tough luck you're on your own.

Here’s what makes me laugh (and it’s not exclusive to Democrats by any means). Go read some liberal posts from the 4th qtr ‘21. You guys were talking about a Biden economic boom and how great he was doing and this is what happens when Democrats get control. Now all of a sudden, none of this is the President’s responsibility. Now all of a sudden, it’s all outside forces.

This is why it’s often funny when partisans talk economics and spin themselves a million different ways to make their side look good.

Biden had every chance to try to sell the idea of doing what I talked about. That's what Bernie would have done.

American workers have record employment, record job growth and we are looking at a much small yearly deficit under this administration

Spare me the "It's Putin's fault" then. Inflation under Trump was less than 2% inflation under Biden is the highest in over 40 years at 8.6%. There is real talk of food shortages. There are several industrialized countries that have lower inflation rates than the US so spare me but inflation is a global problem specious argument.

Under Trump family's income rose by $6,500 under Biden the family's buying power is declining.

And the value of what they earn has fallen.

The deficit in 2019 was about 1 Trillion dollars and in 2021 it was about 2.75 Trillion dollars.

You sure like just making things up.

I suggest if you are going to make up bullshit numbers at least make them look reasonable:
Even before the U.S. economy was slammed by a pandemic, the typical American household’s income grew at a slower pace in more than half of the states under Donald Trump than in the years leading up to his presidency, according to a new Capital & Main analysis of U.S. Census data.

Those states include several key battlegrounds, undercutting one of Trump’s central campaign themes: that before COVID-19 his actions led to an economy he has described as "the best it has ever been.”

Pennsylvania saw its typical household’s income growth slow from 6.2% in Obama’s last three years to 4.7% in Trump’s first three years, while median household income growth in Wisconsin declined from 7.1% to 6%.
