Trump "misremembers" his military draft experience

This bloviator needs to get out of the political arena post-haste. Every time he opens his mouth another lie pops out.

APRIL 28--Despite Donald Trump’s claim this week that he avoided serving in the Vietnam War solely due to a high draft number, Selective Service records show that the purported presidential aspirant actually received a series of student deferments while in college and then topped those off with a medical deferment after graduation that helped spare him from fighting for his country, The Smoking Gun has learned.

During a TV interview Tuesday morning, Trump--who spent his high school years enrolled at the New York Military Academy--said, “I actually got lucky because I had a very high draft number. I’ll never forget, that was an amazing period of time in my life.”

He went on to recall, “I was going to the Wharton School of Finance, and I was watching as they did the draft numbers and I got a very, very high number and those numbers never got up to.” The word “deferment” was not mentioned by Trump during his chat with the morning show hosts on WNYW, the Fox affiliate in New York City.

However, Selective Service records reveal that Trump, the fortunate son of a multimillionaire real estate baron, took repeated steps to avoid serving in Vietnam.

By the time his number (356) was drawn during the December 1, 1969 draft lottery, Trump had already received four student deferments and a medical deferment, according to military records on file with the National Archives and Records Administration. An extract of Trump’s Selective Classification record, seen here, was provided in response to a TSG records request.

In fact, the December 1969 draft lottery occurred about 18 months after Trump graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, where he studied business at the Wharton School. So, while claiming that he would “never forget” being at Wharton watching the draft numbers being drawn, the 64-year-old Trump seems to have misremembered, as candidates are fond of saying.

Exactly, what is the lie ? Because he didn't mention the deferments, thats now a lie....???
If you ask how old I am and won't tell you, do you actually call that a lie ?

I don't like Trump either, but I won't lie about him just for kicks.....

Trump, the fortunate son of a multimillionaire real estate baron, took repeated steps to avoid serving in Vietnam....now that is a fact....

Student deferments and medical deferments were given to thousands in the past...its nothing to be ashamed of ..... its legal....
and I respect ANYONE that serves in any capacity of the Armed Services....

Being an active draft dodger is something else......

We certainly have seen some others that refuse to make public certain aspects of their lives other than their draft experience....same thing....

Your conscience needs a tune-up.

Lying by omission

One lies by omission when omitting an important fact, deliberately leaving another person with a misconception. Lying by omission includes failures to correct pre-existing misconceptions. An example is when the seller of a car declares it has been serviced regularly but does not tell that a fault was reported at the last service. Propaganda is an example of lying by omission.

Economical with the truth

Economical with the truth is popularly used as a euphemism for deceit, whether by volunteering false information (i.e., lying) or by deliberately holding back relevant facts. More literally, it describes a careful use of facts so as not to reveal too much information, as in speaking carefully.

That's funny. Most righties I know excoriated Clinton for getting student deferments. You're a prince.

It is a lie. It is called a lie of omission.

Sorry, replied before I read Christies post.

And I agree with you 100%.....you copied those definitions with unusual accuracy....

there is just one little problem,....you're op conveniently omits what question Trump was asked...making it impossible to determine if his answer was complete or misleading in any way......

the fact that you didn't tell us the question posed to Trump is obviously,

1----A lie by omission....
2-----omitting an important fact ?
3-----deliberately leaving another person with a misconception ?

Did you,

1----deliberately hold back relevant facts, such as the question to mislead us ? OR
2----More literally, did you only reveal a careful use of facts so as not to reveal too much information?

It sure looks like you're guilty in EVERY detail you mention.......

I had no problem with clinton getting student deferments.....but the facts are quite clear....

Clinton actually joined the ROTC or Naval reserve to avoid being drafted....
Then when it came time to report for duty after voluntarily joining, he declined to report for duty...he was AWOL
Then he wrote a letter to some General (the name escapes me now) to come to his aid to cover his ass for not reporting as ordered to avoid the charge of AWOL
the General helped him and Clinton wrote the infamous letter telling the General how "he loathe the military", etc....eventually, because of his age
got a higher number and wasn't called

Bill Clinton is a draft evader/ draft dodger, that actively evaded the draft through personal actions and with help from some military officers.....
I don't even think Clinton denies it anymore....he'll never run for office again....and revisionist history is never gonna change the facts.....

Incidentally, don't expect snopes to spin it truthfully.....

But this is far off the topic as I'm sure you intended.....

Christie, isn't 356 a high number?

given that the highest was 365, obviously so.......I don't specifically remember mine but it was over 200......the highest they drafted in my county was the 30s.....I remember sitting in my high school listening to the radio with a bunch of guys.......one of them pulled a 3, he signed up for the national guard the next week.....I don't recall anyone else in my class going.....

Being Democrats, I doubt if were ever ask about them.....if we don't know the question, we don't know if the answer was relevant....
