In Russian politics, Kompromat (Russian: компромат; IPA: [kəmprɐˈmat] ( listen), short for компрометирующий материал, literally "compromising material") is compromising materials about a politician or other public figure used to create negative publicity, for blackmail, or for ensuring loyalty.
Putin has famously been known for orchestrating compromising events (e.g. luring political opponents with prostitutes then releasing details to the public), which is said to by one of the methods he used to attain his position in Russia.
Victims of kompromat tend to be wealthy businessmen, usually from the West, who are lured into engaging in a morally or ethically compromising acts.
Trump would have been an immediate target of kompromat, with 100% certainty, the second he entered Russia. The question remains, was Trump smart and morally pure enough to not have been lured into a kompromat trap.
