Trump blames Ryan/Medicare for 2012 Republican loss

So Trump claims Ryan's attempt at reforming Medicare is what cost the Republicans the election in 2012. Trump says he won't touch S.S. or Medicare. Makes sense as Trump is a populist and not a reformer. It also belies the argument Trump supporters make that he's better equipped to handle the budget. If you aren't willing to touch the two largest expenditures then no, you aren't better equipped to deal with budget issues.

Donald Trump Says Paul Ryan Cost Republicans the 2012 Election

Donald J. Trump on Wednesday blamed Mitt Romney’s selection of Paul Ryan as his running mate for costing Republicans the 2012 presidential election.

“That was the end of that campaign, when they chose Ryan,” Mr. Trump said at a town-hall-style setting in Bluffton, S.C., about the Wisconsin congressman who is now the House speaker. “That was the end of the campaign. I said, ‘You gotta be kidding.”

When Mr. Ryan was selected as Mr. Romney’s running mate, Democrats made an issue of Mr. Ryan’s proposal, made months earlier, to cut Medicare.

“The only one that’s not cutting is me,” Mr. Trump said, pointing to the fact that he and Mike Huckabee were the only Republican presidential candidates who did not call for reforming Social Security and Medicare. Mr. Huckabee recently pulled out of the race.

Mr. Trump also laced into Senator Lindsey Graham, the South Carolina lawmaker whose cell phone number Mr. Trump read aloud at a rally last summer. Mr. Graham, who himself was a candidate until he dropped out and endorsed Jeb Bush, was deeply critical of Mr. Trump throughout the campaign. Mr. Trump repeated some of this criticisms of the senator in an interview on Fox News on Wednesday morning.

“The guy is a nut job,” Mr. Trump said, before winding up for the punch against a candidate who is no longer in the race.

“I think Lindsey Graham is a disgrace and I think you have one of the worst representatives of any representative in the United States,” he continued. “I don’t think he could run for dog catcher in this state and win again.”

Ryan is also a convenient fall guy for Trump criticisms, because he came out and attacked Trump, basically saying the RNC and House Republicans don't represent what he stands for.

Giving him the gauntlet. Nobody likes him for good reason so might as well make sure he knows it won't be business as usual.

Unless I'm reading you wrong, isn't saying we won't be touching S.S. and Medicare business as usual?

I don't know of anyone who speaks like Trump. People and things are the "best & the greatest," until something goes wrong or they say one bad thing about him, and then they're "disasters and the worst I've ever seen."

He's really kind of psychotic. I don't think he's really all there.

It's funny, the CBO reviewed Ryan's plan, and upon reviewing a chart that showed massive reductions in the deficit, just commented "No plan is proposed that would generate this revenue path". Meaning he was full of shit and just made the numbers up.
