Top banks accused of colluding on ATM fees

Not sure where you bank Damo, but my checking account doesn't generate much more interest than a sock.

Usually checking accounts won't, but they are only a temp place to store money and pay bills from. If all you have are checking accounts then you are doing it wrong.

Why do we fail so many Americans in regard to simple economics classes?... *sigh*

Because simple economics education would highlight the dangers of the usury the bankers use to control the world.

Trade it for something that won't lose value if you are going to do that. Inflation alone will make your money sock worthless.

Not really, it'd be the same as a .025% interest savings or whatever th hell the rate is. And without the fees, id actualy be making money not having it in a bank. Id only need to pay a small bit for money orders when I buy things on line.

The only thing that doesn't LOSE value that I know of is guns. And they're relatively liquid in that it never takes more than a couple days to sell them.

Community banks usually have fewer or even no fees. Interstate banks like BofA; Wells Fargo; Chase etc... are more heavily fee based. There are also credit unions available as an option.

Well, the OP is about ATM fees. I generally use an ATM only for checking account transactions.

Also, personal finance and economics are two different things.

It's time to revert to the old fashioned way of carrying cash. Maybe charges to use a debit card is a good thing. People will think twice when they have to actually put their hand in their pocket and take out cash.
