The clock is ticking, and Democrats are poised not to blink, as are Republicans... and the clock continues to tick away... It's as if Democrats think the Republicans will ultimately cave and give in to their demands to increase taxes, and they believe... wholeheartedly... they can take the country over a cliff to get that, and people will blame Republicans, like they did back when Clinton was president. In their fucked little pinheads, they believe that people will hold Republicans responsible for this, so they are ready to commit financial suicide.

My thinking is, if the public at large is going to hold Republicans responsible, we better damn sure go to the mat fighting on this. I would rather be held responsible and know we did everything we could do to stop the insane spending of the Democrats and this president, than to be held responsible after caving at the 11th hour. See... that's what happened in 1995... Republicans went to the mat... let the government shut down, THEN they caved! George Stefanopolus said in his book, the Democrats were 24 hrs away from backing down... their will had been broken, if the Republicans had only held out for one more day... but we all know what happened, Republicans got scared and blinked... Democrats won the argument, got their budget passed, and the blame for government shut down, went squarely to the Republicans. The same exact thing will happen again, if Republicans do not hold the line.

Of course, you can't convince a pinhead... they are SURE this will turn out the same way for Republicans, so they are ready and willing to let us default, so they can blame it on the GOP. They have their polls... they've seen the data... oh, it's going to be too bad for the Republicans if they let this happen... I say, LET IT HAPPEN! Let's fucking SEE if these manufactured poll numbers transpire into votes on November 2012... I'm betting, if Republicans hold their ground on this, the results will not favor Democrats.

We're not going to raise the taxes. If Democrats have such a hard-on to raise taxes, let Obama run on that for 2012! You can build an entire campaign around that... we need to raise taxes on the rich because the Bush years put us in such a mess...blah,blah,blahhh... you know the drill... hey, I think it might be a winner for the Democrat base! But for now, with THIS Congress, forget about Republicans voting to raise taxes, it ain't happening. Eat your peas, Democrats... understand that you don't control both houses of Congress anymore, and you can't just ram through whatever legislation you wish... you need Republican support. With the debt situation, it is YOUR fault we are in this mess, YOU haven't submitted a budget in over 2 years, and YOUR president submitted one so bad his own party hacks couldn't vote for it! The people aren't stupid... your BASE might be... and you may be able to sell them on this malarkey about Republicans being at fault for this... the rest of us are laughing our ass off at your stupidity.
 
I am not a liberal, but I would prefer to see tax reform that increases taxes slightly across the board, possibly in a progressive manner. You can argue whether or not this country benefited from practices currently in place, but it took two parties to get us here. Obama did not introduce the US to debt. In fact, we could debate the practicality or effectiveness of his bail out and subsidy programs, but they did keep people employed. If he hadn't done what he had done, then far more people would be looking for work and the Republicans would be harping on that instead of the debt ceiling. I think Obama was stupid for trying to push Obamacare through during a recession or a "shaky recovery" (whichever you prefer), but he obviously felt the need to shore up his base. Instead he should have said "Sorry, America, not today." About 8 months ago I wrote a paper about the spiraling debt and my solution included cutting entitlements, raising taxes, and ending foreign wars. All of these will result in increased unemployment. There might even be a contraction in the economy. However this is the path that America chose many, many years ago, and if now is the time to pay the piper, better now than later. However, the other option, would be just to raise the debt ceiling and elect fiscally responsible candidates.

The worst idea on the table, though, is the "Cut, Cap, and Balance" plan.

Personally, I think that if the Government defaults, it wont benefit the Republicans or Democrats. I want to see a multi-party system. I think the Republicans are closer to breaking up than Dems right now, but I bet Americans would support having several options in the form of parties to affiliate with.

The Republicans possess a unique talent. It is the ability to blame someone else for everything bad and take the credit for everything good. The really stupid thing is that they believe that if they sing from the Republican hymn sheet small crumbs might fall in their direction from the tables of the powerful. They will never see the truth that the reason that 'the establishment' promote right wing politics is to own more and more dupes.
Many republicans don't know, I know it sounds unbelievable, but they don't know how they are being duped. They honestly do not know.

Dixie, Obama made it clear during the election in 2008 that he wanted to let the Bush tax cuts expire, and he won by wide margin. There are no 'Scott Walker' surprises. The people are sick of this act by Republicans. Why don't you Monicas for the rich hold a public blowjob rally?

There certainly appears to be a consensus that the Republicans will sacrifice their own country for the simple pleasure of screaming 'yee-hahhhh, we win!' without understanding what the fight is about.
The amazing thing is that so many of them appear incapable of seeing past their own personal pride and the false pride they get from Fox. et al.

It is a cultural thing to some extent, but don't forget Dixie is the quintessential 'pinhead' he always references.

It is also a technocratic mindset in America, and a need to make everything 'sound' more technical than it is.

I remember seeing a news report done from an urban location in England. You could see the truck used to carry the equipment and send the signal to the station/network in the background. The lettering on the side caught my attention.

In America, the lettering on the truck would be something like: 'Mobile Video Communication Up-link Transmission Vehicle'

Why shouldn't the Republicans "cave", and give into the demands of the Dems to increase taxes "on the rich", by removing the obscene Bush tax cuts, which really only benefit them, and have them pay their fair share, as everyone else that has had to tighten their belts. Who the fuck are the rich that they should be exempt? Your ass certainly isn't independently wealthy or in that group, so I don't know why you're trying to support that line of reasoning.

Don't forget the supposed "surplus" was a projection over the next 10 years, based on the phenomenal growth of the new dotcoms, which petered out the next year and never produced the projected surplus.

Things were great and wonderful and we had a surplus of money we didn't know what to do with... then Bush came along and gave all his rich buddies a tax break, causing a $14 TRILLION debt, which Obama inherited! This is how the ignorant see things, and it really doesn't matter how much reason you approach them with, or how many times you point out where they are wrong and their information is incorrect, this is what they believe actually happened, and nothing will change their mind!

I simply posted a quote from your beloved president. "Increasing taxes would be a devastating blow to the economy." Quoted from January of this year, after Congress voted to extend the Bush tax cuts. Now, either President Obama was LYING or he wasn't... which one is it, moron?
