I admit, I don't have a tik tok account (though I've seen videos on it that people text me). To my understanding this is what all the kids use today to watch or create content. The Chinese own it and the U.S. is working on banning it or forcing the Chinese government to either sell or somehow alleviate U.S. security concerns? Is that correct? If yes, anyone here following this and what are your thoughts?

I have one as I do most social media accounts like Truth Social. However, I rarely use any of them.

Agreed there is a valid concern about collecting data on kids and mining Americans for data. Facebook, Truth Social and others are just as guilty as TikTok. I'd like to see laws limiting all of them and protecting kids.

I work with the government flying drones for reconnaissance. Although I have my own drone, a Chinese DJI mini-2 like the one below, we're restricted from flying them for missions since there's a concern about data going through Chinese servers. I fully understand the concern about sensitive US installations and military operations, I'm not at all concerned about the Chinese seeing the effectiveness of the Henrietta, TX volunteer fire department putting out a grass fire. Same goes for my data on fucking TikTok.

TikTok is a video platform that shows short videos, a minute or less. In a way, it is like YouTube, but quicker. Young people spend an average of an hour a day watching it. They let the website pick most of the videos they watch.

TikTok is owned by Byte Dance, which is a Chinese company. Technically, TikTok itself is headquartered in Singapore(not China), but its parent company is headquartered in China.

There is a worry that the Chinese Government will get access to American's data, or will modify the algorithm that decides what Americans watch. TikTok keeps claiming that American data is never going to China, that they do not have much interesting data anyway, and the algorithm is only meant to get people to watch more.

There is also a concern that foreign companies are doing a better job than American companies.
