Pranksters have adapted the lit-up name of a famous brewery in Blackburn (Lancs) after redundancies were announced.
‘With the letters H, I and E of Thwaites blacked out, the embarrassing message blazed out for a whole town to see.’ reports The Daily Mirror.

I am going to give you the benefit of the doubt and take this seriously. Redundancy means job cuts, layoffs, letting go or sacking.

That's a new one on me; never heard it called redundancy. So why would you arrogantly "presume" we would know this?

Damned funny....so, because we are two nations separated by a common language, does "twat" mean the same thing it means here?

Oh I don't know? Maybe because I was assuming a modicum of intelligence or at least the ability to use Google.

So it is a lack of intelligence? Interesting and with equal arrogance that you would presume a political board in AmeriKa would know of a British custom calling "layoffs" redundancies. I am amused that they call unemployment pay "redundancy pay". You're not unemployed, you're merely redundant. LOL

So do you find calling individuals redundant rather demeaning? It's like saying they are excess carbon units to be disposed of.

I find a lot of Liberal arguments and claims rather redundant as well. ;)

As was painstakingly explained to me when I applied for voluntary redundancy, it is not the person who is redundant it is the job. Which means that a company can't just say you are redundant and then immediately hire somebody else cheaper, that's the theory anyway.

We have got to Page 2 and I am a member of CAMRA, yet not one posting so far has been from anyone I don't have on ignore. Is this a record - or are they trying to tempt me to listen to bullyboys, racists and other nutters? Life is hard for the decent! :)

So you applied for voluntary redundancy? What is "voluntary" redundancy? I didn't know one could volunteer to be unemployed?

I was working for T-Mobile when they merged with Orange to become Everything Everywhere and everybody had to reapply for their jobs or apply for VR. I applied and got it along with a bucketload of money.

Well getting fired can cover several things including misconduct and poor performance. Redundancy specifically means that the job no longer exists and you are entitled to redundancy pay.
/grins.....only in England would they pay someone for being redundant.....
