Attacker ‘targeted’ gender studies class in University of Waterloo stabbing: police

WATERLOO — The suspect in a stabbing at the University of Waterloo “targeted a gender-studies class,” police said on Thursday.

A 38-year-old woman, a professor at the university, and two students, a 20-year-old woman from Waterloo and a 19-year-old man from Waterloo, were stabbed in a gender issues classroom at Hagey Hall.

The incident happened at around 3:35 p.m. while philosophy 202 was taking place. Hagey Hall is a building near the university’s main entrance at Seagram Drive.

A male had entered the ground-floor classroom and attacked the three victims, who were all taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Waterloo Regional Police said.
