”House Speaker Mike Johnson’s first big bill cuts climate change funding”

“WASHINGTON — The first major legislation House Republicans passed under newly installed Speaker Mike Johnson would cut billions of dollars in consumer rebates for energy efficiency upgrades included in President Joe Biden’s signature climate law.”

“The $58 billion measure, which funds the Energy Department and other agencies, rescinds more than $5.5 billion from the Inflation Reduction Act, including a $4.5 billion program for homeowners to switch to more energy efficient appliances and a $1 billion grant program to help states craft more stringent building energy codes.”

“Johnson, of Louisiana, is a longtime ally of his state’s oil and gas sector, and has received about $280,000 in donations from the industry. Johnson has denied that climate change is a result of fossil fuels and polluters“

Not that it is going anywhere, dead on arrival in the Senate

These are the same people who vehemently told us cigarette smoking wasn’t detrimental to one’s health and seat belts were never a factor in saving lives

And please, no posts with “proof” from some obscure nobody supposedly invalidating the Scientific consensus or semantically idiotic word games on what is “proof” and “consensus”

Republicans are not legislators, and they don't have any original ideas of their own.

If you never want the government to do anything, the Republican Party is your choice.

The Litmus test of being MAGA is to vote against all Democratic ideas, whether or not they make policy sense

Just another sop to the dumbass science-deniers, fundies, and his rich buddies in the fossil fuel industry.

Since illegal immigration is such a RW boogeyman, why isn't the new speaker coming up with some solutions? Oh, that's right. They already tried to kill reproductive choice, which backfired badly on them in 2022. If they solve the illegal problem, what then will they have to scare their voters with?

And whether or not they benefit *all* the people, not just (R) voters.

Hyperbole much? Flat earthers? You’re essentially saying if you don’t support MMT and that the government can spend unlimited amounts of money on anything it wants that somehow makes you a climate denier. (yes, you’ll notice an element of irony in my statement - but not much).

"It takes three times as much energy to produce and deliver electricity to a stove. Gas stoves use half the amount of energy to operate."

https://www.mrappliance.com/blog/20...end to use, where electricity costs are higher.
We have plenty of natural gas.

Tiny savings in energy efficiency for massive spending to get them is utterly stupid. Buying a new appliance that costs hundreds of dollars more to save a bit of energy that's worth tens of dollars is a fool's errand. The greentards on the Left who pushed this bullshit through don't care that it's economically unviable and stupid from a cost point of view, only that they are getting some miniscule reduction in supposed pollution that is so insignificant as to be irrelevant. They don't care because for them, environmentalism is a religion.

Gas to generate electricity to heat food is less efficient than to heat food with gas.

The Repub party works for the billionaires and corporations. Their policies show that clearly. They have no interest in the American people they equate with vermin in private. Trump and people like him have no interest in your problems. They are making themselves richer and more powerful. You righty loons keep voting for your masters.

Cooking with electricity is less efficient in and of itself.
Yep longer to heat up longer to cool down. It is less efficient to convert from one form of energy to another to do the same task. When you burn gas to fuel a turbine to make electricity you lose heat. It takes three times as much natural gas to create the electricity to boil a gallon of water than to boil a gallon with natural gas.

Arsecheese you're a wanker!

In the United States, by some estimates taxpayers pay about $20 billion dollars every year to the fossil fuel industry.

https://www.budget.senate.gov/chair...s not just the US,to the fossil fuel industry.

After reading the idiocy posted by climate deniers, flat Earthers seems appropriate, and appropriating funds to address the reality of climate change seems appropriate, the five billion is a fraction of the over half trillion the Government hands out to Big Oil in subsidies

Not a rhetorical question, what’s your take on Bernie Sanders and his ilk?

You back every single thing the far right says. The gas problem is that it does slow damage to people's lungs and bodies. https://www.govtaccountabilityproje...o6vMijElZacSGwNYAQab_Xtkb5eyUByIaAohNEALw_wcB
Burning gas in turbine to make electricity takes THREE times as much gas and using the gas directly to cook with.

And there is this:

CH 4 ( g ) Methane + 2 O 2 ( g ) Oxygen → CO 2 ( g ) Carbon dioxide + 2 H 2 O ( g ) Water.

So explain to me how CO2 and water hurts lungs. As far as I know CO2 and water are normally products of respiration.
